England v West Indies

Nor should they. As exciting as some of our WC matches have been doesn't make the short game worth the ECB wasting more time over. I had to miss a lot of the game today, but when it started to look certain that the Windies would win, I couldn't help but start thinking it would be good that the lads could get a bit more rest before the important stuff against India this summer.

As has been mentioned, I'd be happy to see us fuck ODIs off completely, and you can chuck T20 in as well. At least with T20 it's all done with quicker and better for pleasing the impatient fans, but it's still a distraction from the proper game.

I just wish there was a practical way of doing a test cricket World Cup.

cricket snobbery at its finest.

The only reason we stayed in Aus for so long was purely for Financial gains the same as that stupid alan stanford association which the ECB will be lucky to escape criminal charges for.

Without looking at the figures, I dont think he's done that in this tournament, or at 50 over cricket really, although he is a good T20 player for us.

Dont go bringing facts to the argument.

What like Bangladesh and Pakistan having one batsman ranked in the worlds top 20 at the time of them touring in the summer...yet Anderson was a world beater

We're talking about Australia at the minute, stop changing the subject and ignoring the facts.

But while you're currently using the world rankings as the be all and end all, the look at the test bowling ones ;)

id rather look at the batting ones.

there are far more world class batsman than bowlers presently so the batting rankings make a much better read

Paul Harris was in the top 10 of the world bowling rankings, wouldnt get a game for Durham

why does essex boy only appear, cock in hand, when it looks like we are going to lose, and then either vanish or lob every single toy out the pram when we go on to win? very odd.

to be fair im v busy at work at the minute so im not actually on that much at all...the fact we have been pretty poor at one day cricket for the last few months isnt my fault

during the ashes when we were doing well i was asleep as i have to work

fair points, however, cant recall you being happy or congratulating england ever. instead looking for excuses why they won. yet you seem happy when things go tits up.

How convenient  If we have all these world class batsmen knocking about in this era then it must be bloody difficult for the bowlers. I mean pitches are flatter than they have ever been in history, outfields faster than ever before, bats are just phonemonal pieces of equipment, we have all these top drawer world class batsmen and yet with all this against him we have a bowler ranked right up there.

Jimmy Anderson take a bow ;)

Just made my point for me.

Jimmy take a bow.......

he aint come up against any of them since his rise to the top of the rankings

how many of the worlds top ten has he bowled against in the last 12 months since his rise up the world bowling rankings
you lemon ;)

Why is the world's top 10 the be all and end all of judging a quality bowler? Have the likes of Tendulkar, Amla etc not had Bangladesh and the West Indies to bat against thus boosting their own rankings?

We all know Watson, Ponting, Clarke, Hussey and Haddin are quality players. Even the likes of North and Hughes would get into most test teams these days.

And, you were waxing lyrical about Tremlett's performances and yet he had exactly the same batsmen to bowl at and conditions to bowl in.

The bloke has a meltdown on a daily basis, seems more confused than Scooby Doo. He was advocating Bell and Strauss be kicked out the One Day team earlier today, despite the fact we won. Bloody mentalist

And the fact that Strauss is the top scorer in the tournament.

6 in the top 25 - about par for the course in a calendar year.

Yet he thinks they are great test cricketers and also argues that test cricket and ODI are much the same

Just made my point for me.

:lol::lol:

he has gone up the world rankings because England play more tests per year than any other side and he has faced a lot of mediocre/poor test batsman in the last year

or put another way, how many of the Pakistan, Australia and Bangladesh batsman would get in the South African or Indian sides who are ranked one and two

how many in the top 10??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

top 10 batting is harder to get in and stay in

batsman fluctuate a lot more outside the top 10

Haway man 4 months ago they were the only batsmen that mattered. You werent concerned about world rankings then. It was these batsmen in there own backyard on pitches England managed to score 517/1, 644, 513 and another 500+ score.

You really have nowhere to go ;)

and that just goes to show you need to watch cricket to appreciate how players have improved or fallen by the wayside as Clarke and Katich had done through injury or Ponting through age

Watson, Ponting, Haddin and Hussey would all get into South Africa's side and would all be pushing for place in India's batting line up.

Just because batsmen aren't in this holy grail of the top 10 doesn't mean they aren't quality players.
