No weather to save England from losing this time i fear. Hope one of the middle order prove me wrong like but I have lost any confidence in this team when they bat.
 
Yes, it is silly, but selecting particular criteria of a player's career is usually just an attempt to support an opinion.

Not in this context it isn’t. Ben Stokes is a better batsman than his career average of 37. That average is on the lower side because of his early career. Over the last 40/50 tests he has been more consistent and reliable which means we’ll have a player coming back into the side who brings more than what his career average suggests. It’s not selective.

I agree with your overall point and made it myself; we’ll be better with him in the side but with this top three we are going nowhere fast

Who do we have to replace the top 3?

I don’t watch any county cricket as I’m in the US, all I get to see is England

You've chosen to select his later career but claim this isn't selective. Baffling.

Bearing in mind his injury etc, where is the evidence that he will perform at his 'later' level rather than his earlier level?
