England v New Zealand (2nd test)



Not sure it was a howler. On field umpires have to decide on an 85mph ball that was at best a centimetre above the grass.

Then the 3rd Umpire has to find conclusive proof to overturn it from a 2D image.

I agree that my instinct is also that it was out though.
“It has clearly hit the ground” was the comment from the third umpire. I could understand if he ummed and ahhed for a while before staying onfield, but he made a conclusive decision it was not out

Yeah that was wrong but I still don’t think that makes the end decision a howler.

It was reasonable for the on-field lads to give not out and I don’t think there was conclusive evidence for the TV umpire to overturn it.
 
Slightest doubt and the benefit of doubt goes to the batsman.

Saying that - as a qualified Umpire I would have given that out straightaway. You know it when you see it. No need for the 3rd Umpire imo.
