England v India - Third Test, 10/07

Play nice today lads.

Peace,love and cricket.
Good idea

I’m out until close of play so to not spoil the thread

Hope root bats through to tea, stokes appears to be able to bowl and Jamie smith continues his Adam gilchrist tribute act

Then archer steams in and takes a Michelle before they are 150

Mind you the first bit depends on Reddy not bowling. He is deadly

Need Root to go back and get a daddy. Stokes needs to pull his finger out and at least double his score.

Anything less than 450 first up and they'll absolutely dick us.

Those 80mph dibbly dobblers are unplayable apparently

Old fashioned day of test cricket yesterday which I found weirdly reassuring and a mark of their progress... hear me out...

You've got to remember why Bazball started, they were short on batting and bang out of form, had zero confidence, prone to collapse, Root had run out of captaincy ideas and there was a losing mentality around the whole squad. Bazball was a way to free their minds, just whack their way out of trouble, take lots of risks and they got rewards. Instantly that mindset set them free from fear of failure, negativity and overthinking. In the main that has worked, pretty spectacularly. They exceeded anyone's expectations at a time where English test cricket had seemed in a rudderless, hopeless position. For his faults, Key made two exceptional appointments in McCullum and Stokes.

McCullum's first series against NZ in 2022, we had a very green Crawley, we were experimenting with Lees, Pope was still considered an excellent prospect but had an average of 22 in 2021. Bairstow had averaged 24 in 2021 and 19 in 2019, he was another that Bazball lifted onto another level, and had the best summer of his career.

Bazball was a sticking plaster, a coping mechanism, for where we were.

Three years on, we possess what I consider to be one of the best top 7s in the world. Crawley is a much better batsman now than he was, Duckett has been a spearhead and a revelation, Pope is low on confidence but still scores well often enough, Root is as good as ever. Smith and Brook have been exceptional additions.

The fact that we are even able to play a day of cricket like yesterday, actually reassures me. A balanced, measured, competent day of test batting. The two early wickets did not lead to collapse, Crawley had an odd innings, Pope and Root were composed and competent, Brook was undone by a very good ball, Stokes didn't bat like he was missing a contact lens (unlike at Edgbaston).

Our problem is now the bowling. You can't Bazball bowling.

Decent post.

Let's also not forget Indians disciplined bowling was a factor. At times there were still rash shots played and plenty just missed the bat.

I agree. The new alderman , philander and even Shane warne got a mention when I mentioned his lack of quality at test level.

Amazing he’s up with those greats after 5 tests and 6 wickets at 43

Every day a school day

Enjoy your day.

My mate went yesterday and said the heat made it a tough slog.

Hopefully we get to around 400

I think that's gamesmanship trying to play down the injury. He is going to be sore this morning and I can see him going into slog mode early on. Will be surprised if he's able to bowl much.
Hope he doesn't slog. This is a vital partnership for the match. He needs to stick with Root as long as possible.
