England v India - Third Test, 10/07

For Stokes to show discomfort indicates to me that it's a pretty serious injury which means extra workload for Carse and Archer-a worrying scenario. Root and Smith batting long is our only hope.

Groin injury-was limping rather than running between wickets.

Fuck sake.

Got to worry about him lasting the full Ashes tour, he just can’t seem to stay fit for a prolonged period in recent years

Bethel has been unlucky not to play this season so far

Why they allowed him to sit out the ipl and then drop him was a strange one to me

One problem he has though, he has barely played any red ball since the winter
You can pretty much take “since the winter” out of that last sentence. It’s curious that while there is a lot of hostility to some of the more egregious consequences of Bazball on here, most of those who show it still seem to buy into Bethel who is arguably the most extreme of the lot. A selection on the back of a limited number of good one-day performances. A man who’s never made a professional hundred never mind a first class one. But apparently, he’s a nailed on test number three.

A left field selection initially but he proved in New Zealand that he can adapt to Test cricket surely?

If Stokes is injured and misses the remaining two tests then surely the best way to try and balance the side would be to drop Bashir and replace him with a batsman/spinner (a Dawson, Jacks, even Bethell if they back his bowling) to allow you to select a 4th seamer. I think the injury records of Archer, Carse, Atkinson and even Woakes lately shows we can't really go into games with only a 3 seam attack.

England will resume on 251/4 this morning with Root 99*

He's 76 runs away from leapfrogging Dravid and Kallis to go 3rd in the highest test runs scorers and he won't be far behind Ricky Ponting in second place.

Pre the Zimbabwe test stokes stated that Bethel was likely to retain his spot at 3

As for the winter comment , why remove that when it’s the absolute reality of when bethel last played red ball cricket

The rest of your post I agree
