England v India - Third Test, 10/07

I’d honestly give Crawley a shot in white ball cricket. Long levers and it doesn’t move as much.

Great in the power play

I've been saying this for a while, he's much more suited to the 50 over game.

They won't stop him from the test side now but it's getting towards being ridiculous how stubborn they are being with him and Bashir.

Lees, Sibley and Hamees are all better players than they were the last time they played for England. Haines has also surely done enough to be given a chance, Patel at Leicester is promising, as are Bean and Wharton at Yorks although the latter bats 3.

Yep they want him for Australian pitches.

But his form has been in the toilet since India last year.

Even during that series even though he was our top run scorer. His inability to convert was a big factor in getting spanked that series, while Jaiswal converted and made the difference.
I'd drop him now and ask him to go out to OZ early and play some grade cricket and if he hits some form on the pitches there I'd have no issue having him in the squad.
But he shouldn't be there on merit

I’m sick to death of this wicket keeping situation like. They’ve got an extra man and there’s no way Pant would be up here. Not to mention if Jurel gets injured and has to go off they don’t lose a batsman
You all raise fair points about this situation but if England lose it wont be down to Jurel being able to keep wicket like

He's also worked on his game and the highest run scorer in the CC this season, and had a blinding year last year.

But sure, Crawley is soooo much better. Good point  far rather see someone keep slashing outside off and nicking off than actually getting runs. vibes
Sibbers has definitely improved his game, his short form stats reflect that.
Given he scored a 100 against a good South Africa attack I wouldnt worry about him giving it away against the Aussies

Talking of mental aspects, Crawley and Pope are making us all suffer

With Duckett, Smith and Brook, when they come in, you think, well they could explode into life here with a big score. There’s always a risk, but you feel like they have the capability to go big and put pressure on the opposition. If they fail, you half shrug your shoulders and think, daft shot, but at least they have decent averages and can put up regular runs. They play a certain way and it feels like an occupational hazard, even though you grumble when it doesn’t work.

With Root, you just expect solid class. It’s pretty devastating when he’s out early, because he’s your rock.

With Crawley and Pope, you’re just waiting for the wicket to fall. You expect shitness. There’s no confidence in them. I almost sense that sometimes they make a decent score despite themselves - either through rubbish bowling or a favourable pitch. All you have to do to get them out is coax a lazy drive, or get the ball to move off the seam.

Would give Haines a go

Drop him to wait until October to play cricket?

That is a terrible idea

Since when were you allowed to bring on a specialist wicketkeeper as a sub ?

I remember a while ago when Aussies were whining if a substitute outfielder was a bit too capable.
I don't like this at all. I don't care what the rules state. This is cheating. If you can bat, you should field. It's that simple.

India allowed to do what the f#*k it wants as usual.

Totally agree, if England lose it’s on the top order being brain dead and the bowling attack being largely toothless for long periods in the game.

But this is making a mockery of the game, we should call up Foakes, say Smith has stubbed his toe and can’t keep but will be alright to bat. In fact let’s find the best fielder in the country and say Root has hurt his pinky finger but can bat.
