England v India - Third Test, 10/07

You just know the only thing going through Ben's mind is declaring after tea to have a crack at them before close of play today.
So the players are probably being encouraged to go for shots. But if we are bowled out before tea it is over.

But would you want to be chasing even 250 on this pitch day five?
If Archer and Carse can hit that length it could be carnage.

Bethell was the man in possession during the winter

They come back but let bethell go off to sit on a bench in the IPL , which allowed Pope back in v Zimbabwe and he gets a 170 odd

Then it’s claimed how could you drop pope after that ?

Well a 170 v Zimbabwe is about 15 against India or Australia

I think bethell has been badly miss coached
.

Shot roooooot

Bethel came in for Smith who was unavailable so it's not as simple as you make out

Bethell, Rew, Cox are the obvious picks but none are openers

Openers are slim pickings - sibley, hameed, lyth, Lees, top the run charts but they won't go back to them

Think Crawley and Pope are done. This from Cricinfo is pretty damning:

“Matt Roller has been digging in Ollie Pope's numbers, and points out that his average in the third and fourth innings has sunk below 20 - the worst of any specialist batter in England's Test history. In fact, no specialist batter in Test history has batted as often in the third and fourth innings and averaged less. Ouch”

They’re not dropping Crawley with 2 tests before the Ashes mind
Yep they want him for Australian pitches.

But his form has been in the toilet since India last year.

Even during that series even though he was our top run scorer. His inability to convert was a big factor in getting spanked that series, while Jaiswal converted and made the difference.

Hope TMs etc pick up on that as it is a horrific stat
