England v India - Champions Trophy Final

Should never have lost the game but blaming Bopara or Morgan for me is totally wrong, Buttler and Bresnan looked shot to bits under the pressure, Ravi and Morgan lived by the sword and died by it going for big shots, no blame attached to them IMO.

Totally agreed, shots like Buttler's yesterday raise big question marks about his ability as a top class batsman. Seems to score for fun whenever I watch him domestically but been far more miss than hit for England.

I agree, he's certainly got ability as someone who can clear the ropes, but his overal game looks very average to me - it's all well and good coming in playing dilscoops at 250/5 but he's going to need a lot more than that as time goes on.

Disagree with that - attacking shots were very much needed as we were getting bogged down.

Overall you are right but he had already hit a boundary in that over, the shot was slightly unneccessary IMO.

Who's blaming Morgan & Bopara?

Just one more innings like theirs would have won it

Just one more player with his eye in and not playing a stupid shot would have won it. ;-)

He should have left it, it was a wide

Him and morgan threw there wickets away after doing all the hard work. Buttler pissed his away as did bresnan

Give owa man - its half way down the track, its 20/20, the ball is turning square at the other end and it was there to be hit. Instinct tells you to smash it out of the park. Poor execution.

As far as Ravi was concerned he couldnt be out from that ball anyway. He thought it was still a wide even though he hit it straight down square legs gullet

I think (hope!) he was thinking there'd been too many bouncers in the over rather than it was a wide. Shame for him, I agree it was the right shot to play, he just didn't nail it. Been impressed with him in the last few weeks, didn't think he should have been in the team.

Buttler and Bresnan were the biggest culprits for me, they lost their heads.

Exactly you learn that rule as a kid and the idiot was moaning to the umpire.

Actually laughed at the prick after swearing at the TV

We had to get 20 from 15 him and morgan could have coasted to victory

With the potential of 12 of those balls turning square. They had to take advantage of Sharma's over - he was the one really hittable bowler there. Of course once hes out he should have left it but all players would have seen that as an easy boundary opportunity when there might not be many more against some quality spin bowling.

In which case would it have been a no-ball instead of a wide and he thought he could have a free hit (or at least not be out off it, not a genuine free hit)?

Wouldn't have been a free hit, they're only front foot no-balls. So he either thought that (I don't remember another short ball) or in the moment he got his wires crossed and is still shaking his head about it somewhere  I think he was just distraught about being out.

No, that's why I said not a real one, just that he couldn't be out off the one he was facing.

Are we still banging on about this

Ravi bop was motm of course....

Should keep it going a few more weeks ;-)
