England v India 5th Test

Going tomorrow and Saturday. Looking forward to tomorrow, might be a bit of waiting around on Saturday. Anyone recommend any good pubs nearby to pass the time?

I usually go into the Beehive (between the ground and Vauxhall station) before play starts for a beer or three and a bacon sarnie - it's always open early on cricket days and has a good atmosphere. There are also a couple of OK-ish pubs around the corner from Oval station whose names escape me but otherwise the drinking options in area are fairly limited.

I would have been inclined to leave out Rashid and bring in whoever they have in mind to open the batting in the winter and maybe play them at 3.

Not a bad shout mate. I would also be inclined to leave the winning team as is. Especially as it's supposed to turn at oval. Pros and cons for both I suppose.

Was when Cook was still here, as just needed something completely different to mix it up (half said in jest)

Now Cook has gone, think that is all the refreshing we need

Bairstow is my favourite England player, I don't believe he is a top 5 player, been pretty consistent on that over the last few years

Root and Bairstow were one of the few bits of the team scoring consistently in their positions, we moved them, and they stopped scoring. Not sure why people can't see this.

absolutely this. Burns should have played

Rashid is contributing nothing.

Contributing nothing is harsh mind.

He's definitely a luxury player in the test arena. But it's a luxury we can afford with all those all rounders. What's the point of having all of them is if we're going to use the advantage to bolster our weak batting. That's afford negative standpoint. Better we use the advantage to get us 20 wickets. After all that's how you win matches

Cheers mate. Disappointing I imagine there being London boozers on every corner round there for some reason. I'll find something if the weather holds us up

The constant failure of England's top order makes selection difficult and imperfect choices at times have had to be made. Take yourself for example very recently you have said Bairstow should open and you were dead against Burns being picked. Now you are saying Bairstow should always be at 7 and Burns should have played (which I agree he should have)
That's not having a pop at you, the only reason you have suggested these is because of the top order failings and that is why other peoples choices would be moving Root and Bairstow to 3 and 5 to plug the gaps and have what they see as our best batsmen in the top 5.

I wasn’t against burns mate

I was against cook n burns opening

You make fair points

But it hasn’t worked and our middle order even stopped scoring runs

Get them to 4 and 7

I really struggle to agree anyone who has watched the cricket this summer to say Buttler can’t bat 5

He’s been by far our most responsible batsman

I love Bairstow I just don’t believe he can be that player

For me it’s simple

Perfect time to play

There’s literally no need for Rashid to play if Ali is

I would avoid the pubs near the ground, they're shit and packed. If you're a wanky craft beer type like me, then do yourself a favour and go to Mother Kelly's. Superb beer selection, close to the station and won't be rammed with the Barmy Army lot drinking Foster's.
