I agree with Boycott. Bairstow needs to bat 7. He's more effective there
I'm worried about him at the moment wherever he bats. His technique before release has gone completely to shit.

I am just more annoyed about Kohli's behaviour and hate to see him win. It’s amazig isn’t it. Just going back through this thread I will never understand why people call the result of a Test Match based on one innings having been played.

But by scoring 40 at 3 he is scoring 13 more than Vince at 3 and even more than whoever bats 4 when Root bats 3
13!!!!!
I want Root at 4 but it’s not as straightforward as you make out
Harsh.
The fourth seamer rarely gets much of a look in when it's turning like this. If Woakes were playing, he'd not be getting much of a bowl either. Just like Ali would bowl few overs if it were swinging.
Great to see Ali fired up, its embarrassing that Smith had Rashid ahead of him.
This would be a really good win, the way Buttler, Stokes and Curran batted yesterday could be the deciding factor
We have issues but are still a good team.
It really is, get your best players in their best positions
its not rocket science
By having Root at 3 averaging a lot less than he normally does, we then need to find a number 4, which we can't find
So you have 2 problems instead of one
Wasn't being critical of him like, just need to remember he is in the team as a bowler.
Ali comprehensively outbowling Ashwin is the real deciding factor. The game was gone before his five for in the first innings.
Buttler, Stokes, Curran and Ali have all made telling contributions with the bat, Curran in both innings. But other than Pujara - who for me has batter the innings of the series - Ali is the decisive factor.
Yes, and Woakes is better for me in England. I'd be interested to see him abroad though. Woakes for me is a duke ball specialist. Curran gets close to the stumps and has a skiddy action - might have more success than Woakes abroad. Needs an extra 3-4mph mind.
Need to get them all out before I have to prepare the veg for tea![]()
Woakes shouldn't play abroad, its that simple, his record is appalling, just play him at home, no big deal
Oh aye that is the big battle
My main point is England's strength is their all rounders, by having them up the order we are just weakening our strength.
We haven't found any top order players, but its not to say they aren't out there. There must be players who can grind out 50s. Its why I wanted Rocky i the team, he was doing that.
Agree.
Burns surely deserves a go. Whether he bats as opener or three I don't care. Maybe we bring Burns and Hildreth in? Gritty characters.
The rumours are Denly will go to Sri Lanka, might get a go earlier
I suspect they might play Ali at 3 at the Oval with the series won
I'd keep Cook only because we go to Sri Lanka and Windies on dead pitches. I'd go 3 openers in the top 3 though.
Cook at 3, just to mix it up.
Hildreth is not a bad shout
