By having Root at 3 averaging a lot less than he normally does, we then need to find a number 4, which we can't find

So you have 2 problems instead of one

The fourth seamer rarely gets much of a look in when it's turning like this. If Woakes were playing, he'd not be getting much of a bowl either. Just like Ali would bowl few overs if it were swinging.

Ali comprehensively outbowling Ashwin is the real deciding factor. The game was gone before his five for in the first innings.

Buttler, Stokes, Curran and Ali have all made telling contributions with the bat, Curran in both innings. But other than Pujara - who for me has batter the innings of the series - Ali is the decisive factor.

Yes, and Woakes is better for me in England. I'd be interested to see him abroad though. Woakes for me is a duke ball specialist. Curran gets close to the stumps and has a skiddy action - might have more success than Woakes abroad. Needs an extra 3-4mph mind.

Oh aye that is the big battle

My main point is England's strength is their all rounders, by having them up the order we are just weakening our strength.

We haven't found any top order players, but its not to say they aren't out there. There must be players who can grind out 50s. Its why I wanted Rocky i the team, he was doing that.

Woakes shouldn't play abroad, its that simple, his record is appalling, just play him at home, no big deal

Burns surely deserves a go. Whether he bats as opener or three I don't care. Maybe we bring Burns and Hildreth in? Gritty characters.
 
I can count to 10, the ticker along the bottom would be a lot more informative letting me know the runs difference.

The rumours are Denly will go to Sri Lanka, might get a go earlier

I suspect they might play Ali at 3 at the Oval with the series won

I'd keep Cook only because we go to Sri Lanka and Windies on dead pitches. I'd go 3 openers in the top 3 though.

Cook at 3, just to mix it up.

Hildreth is not a bad shout

I think Cook will retire. Not sure Stokes will play next match if it's won either.
 
Didn't see this coming when they were 140-2 on Friday. Excellent fight back by England and a well deserved series win.
Lumping money on India to win at The Oval like as we rarely perform in a dead rubber
