England v India 4th Test

Curran looks a tremendous prospect.

Jennings looks as bad as he used to for Durham before his purple patch. I would rather see Ali open the batting.

I would have played Vince and batted him at 3. Root needs to go back to 4. Bairstow should have been rested.

Really worried that Cook is nearing the end now.

Going forward into next Summer unless we find an answer to the top order issues the Aussie pace bowlers will dismantle us.

England top order
1. Goose
2. Lemmings
3. To the crease
4. No substance all show
5. Chokes

Well @TheRey must be absolutely loving this

Haway Jimmy hold on to let him get a ton.
I remember a very drunk post I made on here when he first got called up to the T20 side where I said you'd all absolutely love him.

One of my favourite cricketers ever, is Junior.

Because he's a posh public school boy.

Excellent from Sam Curran. Stating the bleeding obvious but we need an opener who will bore the pants off the opposition. The modern game doesn't seem to produce them anymore however.
Rory effing Burns.

Good!!! me personally I don't want anyone boring the pants of anyone, and if the modern game means no teams have that type of opener, that makes for more entertainment imo.

Watching Jennings dismissal last night. Decent delivery, but fuck me did he misjudge it. It was like Chris Read and the Cairns full toss.

Dear me.

So because one man with the attention of a goldfish gets bored, England - and, presumably, every other nation - should repeatedly collapse at the top of the order because you want to see the ball flying to the ropes every delivery?

There is something beautiful about the Leave, about a confident forward defense, the nudging and nurdling.

Sure, it might not entertain the children, but it wins Test matches.

It's almost like ODI and T20 were never invented.

The job of test openers should be to tire out the opposition bowlers allowing the middle order to attack. This current pair are consistently exposing the middle order to the new ball.

Chris Tavare's 64. Still in with a chance of a recall at this rate

I agree

And I was annoyed during the series in NZ, Stoneman got like 2 or 3 50s, really really slow innings, patient, but really ugly

All the media were onhis back as he didn't look great or get a 100. Why does he need big 100s all the time, just see off the new ball, which he did

Hypocrites

The irony here is a defensive top three would allow Stokes, Bairstow, Ali and Buttler to play their natural, attacking game.

Id much rather my opener got consistent 40's and 50's and took the shine off the new ball, than the odd hundred and the rest single figures and teen scores.

Yup.

Test cricket isn't T20/ODI stuff where you can just go out and smack it from ball one. You have to earn the right to play that way.

I think it's the way he goes about his business, let's hope the Bayliss regime doesn't ruin him.

Nice picture of him coming out to bat yesterday.......

I was saying from the 13/14 Ashes we needed 2-3 of top order grinders to take the leather off the ball and Bayliss still hasn't figured it out.

He reluctantly picked Compo in SA, he comes back in at Durban, plays a pair of perfect #3 innings, 80-odd runs at c.SR30-40 that set us up to win the match, and Bayliss comes straight out and says he would prefer a stroke player at three. Compo then gets out in every other match trying to be Kevin Pietersen.

If some internet gobshite in NW Durham can see it more clearly than Bayliss I despair...

Hussain is pissing me off this morning.

“Not a lot wrong with that delivery”

It was a pie Nasser, England have bowled VERY poorly so far this innings.

Going back a few years, I thought Compton and especially Carberry were dropped too soon. How unlucky was Carberry, playing all 5 tests in Aus 2013-14, looking half-decent, then being discarded!
