Was there in the roker end. Smith was quality and when le tissier came on he looked class. Marco didn't really have many opportunities obviously the highlight of his career.

anyone remember a game at Roker that was ex-england players against germany??? late 80's ish.....i was only a youngun like

do remember norman hunter playin and hoyin a few nasty tackles about

Sure ive got the programme at me mothers but its got marco on front page not adams. Also it was a big fa type not a norm roker one

My memories of this game are:

Alan Smith notching

And people around me, (and me) calling David Seaman "Spunky" most the half he was at the fulwell end. The strange thing was i couldnt for the life of me figure out why?!? Few years later the penny dropped!

tony adams nearly cleared the main stand with a clearance

I was in the Clock Stand seats that evening. All I can remember is that the goals came fairly early-ish, there was a buzz of expectancy every time Marco had the ball - which inevitably dissipated when he was given no support - and the stewards threatening to throw me out for taking pictures, which was particularly strange as I had no camera.

When they eventually warned the mother and child that were taking the pics, all I said was "Thank you for your apology guys. You do a great job sorting out those nasty women and kids." The irony, sadly, was lost on them as they stared blankly.

Also went to the full international the next evening at Wembley when Paul Gascoigne produced one of the all-time great performances in an England shirt in a 4-2 win. I recall celebrating a Steve Bull goal during the match, then stopping, thinking "Shit, he's playing against us on Saturday."
