Eng vs India - First Test - 20th-24th June

Is Archer ever going to play test cricket again though?

His injury record puts me off.

They seem pretty keen on him being in the squad for the second test, providing he proves his fitness in a CC game at Durham. His 1st first class game for 4 years, no one can be confident he can get through a test on the back of that one game.

Forecast has massively changed for the weekend now, it was 0% chance of rain for Sunday as it stood on Monday, now it’s 40%.

I give up trying to watch test cricket

“Potential “

He is now 30 and barely played any red ball for 6 years

There comes a time when you have to just move on
Yeah perhaps potential the wrong word to use.

Was more making the point that we weak in the pace department and Archer so much better than what we have.

They will keep trying to get him fit and playing
Agree.

It's not as if we have a shortage of pace bowlers.
I think we have a shortage of ‘quality’ pace bowlers though

I don't think Archer is any better than what we have though.

As long as we can bowl sides out twice and can win games they'll do for me.

The problem is we were spoilt with Anderson and Broad in the same team most of the time.

Two of the greatest ever quicks and we were lucky to have both. There will never be anyone close to those two for a long time yet.

Yes,but is that a realistic aim? Not sure that Archer has the desire to get fit for test cricket. To a lesser degree whilst Wood probably has the will to play in the Ashes given his age and fitness record it's highly unlikely he'll be able to play a significant role down under. We have 5 tests to trial alternatives.
We have 2 upcoming rounds of CC games to find them.

Yeah I think that is why they rightly or wrongly will keep trying to get Archer fit, as we have lost two brilliant bowlers and because of that looks like we will struggle to bowl sides out twice with this current crop

I think the powers of be mind think Archer a lot better than what we have, hence the way they continue to try and get him back

Yeah great first question, don’t know the answer.

But I do think they must think Archer has a high ceiling to keep trying to get him fit.

Don’t get me wrong not saying right or wrong.

Just think they must rate him a lot better than what we have to be as patient as they are with him

There’s no doubt Archer in 2019 was right inside the heads of the Aussies

I just don’t see him every getting up to that level again , it’s been too long now

The Aussies have problems with 1-2-3 of their order

I think Wood and Atkinson can be the pace , with Woakes , Stokes as back up in the ashes of the pace options

I would take the best pace bowlers from this summer with those four certs above

He’s got huge natural ability, he looked effortless with his pace early on. And his wrist allowed him to move the ball both ways (although I don’t think he ever really harnessed how to be a bowler in the same way others set the batsman up)

I don’t mind trying to get him fit; but I do find the obsession with the away Ashes a bit bollocks. It’s not the only series

Yeah I agree would be nice to see him this series although unlikely.

Worried about our pace attack tbh, he could be that X factor we need.
