Echo Watch

Zen Den

Full Back
A place for us (or just me) to report any bad examples of snidey clickbait, reporting on other people’s journalism, or any other disingenuous or two-bob writing from Copley and Paste et al.

Posting links will just add clicks so not gonna give it the oxygen, but good Echo reporting is also welcome of course.

Today, Copley has a story reporting on two pieces of journalism carried out by someone else (one of them’s even a real journalist):

Miguel Delaney’s story in the Independent about Bayern behind after Brobbey

Teamtalk’s scoop that some clubs might be after Sadiki

If Sunderland news happens anyway, anytime, the Echo will be the first to report on the first to report it.

its just how modern 'journalism' works since the onset of t'internet

we all miss getting one back page a day on SAFC from Geoff Storey and the local cricket and footy on the inside pages

i wouldnt let it bother you
unless youre actually paying them money for it
I know marra, and in the grand scheme of things there’s worse going on in the world, so it only bothers me up to a point (enough to start a thread about it haha)

I do though think it’s wrong to be hoodwinking fellow supporters - especially older ones who aren’t necessarily internet-savvy - all to make a dishonest buck.

Copley by no means the only culprit generally but agree it’s a terrible modern practice.

So What? Copleys a lads fan like us, jumps onto other Journos stories but shares his own thoughts - He works the echo not a national so wont have many contacts out of the Sunderland bubble..Have a watch of his podcasts he does with a few just talking football - what a sad thread to post

I agree, it’s a systemic problem, but I always return to the view that in a free society like ours if you voluntarily stick your name on a piece of writing then you’re complicit and there to be critiqued.

Supports us yet tries to mislead us and piggybacks on the work of others instead. Anyone can go on a podcast and waffle on. This is supposed to be journalism.

We whinge about plenty sad things on here but journalistic standards should not one of them unless we’re proper idiots.

Does a really good podcast with a lad called Jason (another reporter - can’t remember his name) reviewing our games.
Phil Smith’s On the Whistle podcast also very good

Love Phil Smith; Jason Jones is another one who, if you judge him on the output, is a hack, shill, low-level huckster … take your pick.
Ugh. This is very maggish.
How so?

Point of view? Almost all of his articles are clickbait or reporting what some internet slop website has rumoured.

Well said. Copley is a good egg all told. I think this whole thread is a complete misunderstanding of national vs local sports journalism...

If every news source had to be an exclusive, you'd find out nothing.

Go onto the echo website to find out news but they can't report who we've signed cos that is already broken elsewhere.
