ECB APPROVE ASHES TOUR

Michael Vaughan in the Telegraph

"The squad generally picks itself but I would go for Liam Livingstone, Saqib Mahmood and Matt Parkinson as uncapped players."

I agree actually, his 3 wildcard picks
also compare these quotes from Aaron Finch to the garbage fro Tim Paine, what an absolute wanker he is

“I can really sympathise with them and I am glad everyone is coming to a resolution,” said Finch. “The quarantine conditions sound really positive.

It’s obviously a difficult situation for them. They’ve been dragged from pillar to post with their schedule over the last couple of months, so I can understand where they’re coming from.

“Having families around... especially in a pandemic - guys are on the road for a lot longer than what tours used to go (for), when you add on quarantine at the start and potentially at the end - so I sympathise fully with them. It is difficult. I think it is up to the individual. Personally I would do it but we have been in a different situation to England.

“They have played so much cricket in the last 18 months to two years. I can understand their want and need to have partners and families and as much comfort as they can. It is a really big issue.”

Reckon this will be a closer series than some are projecting. If India can beat them in their own backyard there's no reason why England cant at least be competitive.

All depends on Smith, if he averages like he did against India (44.71) rather than his usual 100+ averages against England then I think its game on. Likewise if Root can show some of the form he's been in over the past 12 months too that would be useful.

They're not favourites by any means but England can win this IMO.

6/1 England they are huge favourites

Burns, crawley, hameed, robson
Malan
Root
Livingstone, Lawrence
Pope, Stokes (I hope)
Foakes, bairstow
Woakes, Overton
Robinson, broad
Wood, Mahmood, carse
Anderson
Leach, bess, parkinson

Can't say I disagree with that selection but focus is now on the Lions selection which is to be announced midweek. Mahwood,Carse and Patkinson as back up bowlers but I haven't a clue about the batting selection.

Bess over Parkinson is a shocking call

Stinks yet again of picking players who can do a bit of both rather than just picking your best players for each position.

They’ll go Woakes, Bess, Robinson, Wood, Anderson and then stand there scratching their arses about why they’re 550/6.

Don’t get me wrong, Stokes missing is a huge blow because he adds such great balance to the side. Archer adds that x-factor, even if he maybes hasn’t hit the expectations we thought he may in test cricket so i do sympathise to an extent. But that is such a poor selection with players who have flattered to deceive on numerous occasions

Bess is a bit of joke of a selection. Simply not good enough. But you can guarantee he’ll be selected at 8 to lengthen the batting.

I can only see a heavy series defeat

We better hope a miracle happens and Wood is available for the whole series

Need to look after Wood, can’t gamble on him playing all 5 tests. Should have had another quick with him and maybe rotated between the 2.

Bess apparently was alright for Yorkshire in the county championship, not surprised he’s been picked but a bit odd given that Root didn’t trust him to bowl on turning pitches in India. Just hope they back Leach

harsh on Bess like. Proved for Yorkshire he is one or best we have

I get that the cupboard is quite bare, but I just do not rate the lad at all.

Hopefully Leach is our number 1 spinner, but I’d put money on them playing Bess due to his batting

I’m amazed Carse or Mahmood aren’t there

bess has had some good moments and is young and bowled well this year

probs wouldn’t have took him myself like but I think people go over the top about him personally.

the squad is a bit samey for me. People always find wild card picks more exciting even if the reality of them nicking off for 0 isn’t

haven’t watched Overton at the oval on that pitch against India i wouldn’t have picked him

Bess record is okay like people are over reacting

The one for me is Dan Lawrence

I think they are right to back Pope and Crawley but I can’t see Lawrence making runs consistently with his technique.
Did well for the lions in Australia last time. Not really sure who else they would have considered; Livingstone or Vince perhaps

I think it’s easy to be critical but I think they should have mixed it up slightly more.

Can anyone see hameed getting runs in Oz? I can’t

Sibley did really well over there too and has done a lot better than Dan Lawrence at test level

yeah I’d have picked both them over him personally.
