Durham Women

Well i quite enjoyed that,

so my mate tipped me the wink that they werent even checking who was going into the castle view suite, so me and the bairn managed to join him and his daughter up there, sat and the balcony for most of the game but bloody hell it was Cold, so god knows what it was like in the stands,

fortunately the members lounge was open for all too, so warmed ourselves up a bit with a lasagne, its been years since i had a membership and even then i rarely went in the lounge, but just shy of £10 for lasagne garlic bread and salad was great value when the only other food options was the burger van and £9 for a burger and £4 for chips

got to admit i expected slightly more people in the ground for how it was pushed, majority probably was the pathway and the foundation kids and their parents, but arguably ive seen similar crowds for a mens 50 over game in recent years,

The cricket was good too, thought Durham bowled really well, although a bit a lull after having them 65/5, i thought they could have brought Levick on sooner as she always seems to get wickets, Turner looks a real talent too, she was top wicket taker in the 50 over comp last year, and the fielding i thought was really good, Durham looked far better in the field, Essex seemed to have a fumble everytime the ball the ball was picked up, Could maybe blame some very Cold hands

Bit of worry when Marlow went early, but Armitage and Bates were very Steady in the approach, took a while and played themselves in, then it never looked in doubt, Great piece of business to get Bates for the whole season, Maybe some arguably bigger names gone to other counties but a lot for shorter deals or just a few games, She looked a class act yesterday

great start hope they can keep it going, i know theres a few questions over it finances and what it brings in, but surely we have to at least give it a chance to try and sustain itself, womens sport is growing really quickly, so who knows where it will be in a few years time, and if we get the massive windfall from the ECB of the 25million, as a Dad of daughters ive no arguments if a bit of it is used for womens cricket.

Yes very enjoyable day, the lasses played really well and dominated from start to finish ..... early days but they look a well balanced decent side ..... and on run rate .... are top of the league !!

i couldnt work out on the ECB app why we had 5 points? and the other 2 teams that won only 4

Lauren Filer is out injured, not sure what with or how long for, it was on the website
Lizzie Scott also, so 2 frontline seamers to come into the team at some point,

Wouldnt surprise me if its the ECB resting her either, they didnt release all the England players for this first round of games apparently
Me and the boy went and had a great day (bar the extortionate burger van serving absolutely rank food).
Was bloody freezing though.
Hope they leave the members lounge open for all for the womens 50 over games as the food options otherwise were very limited, burger van or the sticky wicket

seemingly there is a bonus point for teams winning with a NRR greater than 1.25

or something like that

she looked to be limping a bit when she came out for photos

Bates will score a lot of runs for us. Outstanding signing!
by some margin the class act on show yesterday

Me too, honestly if I had known that the food from the van was going to be that bad, I would have paid a few pounds more and gone to the sticky wicket. We didn’t want miss any of the game though.

i had a lovely view, only blocked by couple of pensioners sat right at the window, but i could see past them enough

I can understand the media team trying to whip up enthusiasm but this is just idiotic....'After a bumper crowd on Wednesday for Durham’s historic win over Essex'

Loving the actions of these 2 opening bowlers, you don't see many left arm bowlers in the women's game
.

32/1

Bates gone for 9
.

50/2

But the men's FC game is the feeder for the England team which draws massive gate,tv and sponsorship income. At present, the women's game draws nothing like comparable revenue from those sources.

Yep 100% this

How much money has Durham made the ECB snd the wider game in general through stokes, colly etc

Im chuffed Durham has got a women’s team and will go to games for sure just it’s interesting what the end goal is I guess
