Central Defender
Well i quite enjoyed that,
so my mate tipped me the wink that they werent even checking who was going into the castle view suite, so me and the bairn managed to join him and his daughter up there, sat and the balcony for most of the game but bloody hell it was Cold, so god knows what it was like in the stands,
fortunately the members lounge was open for all too, so warmed ourselves up a bit with a lasagne, its been years since i had a membership and even then i rarely went in the lounge, but just shy of £10 for lasagne garlic bread and salad was great value when the only other food options was the burger van and £9 for a burger and £4 for chips
got to admit i expected slightly more people in the ground for how it was pushed, majority probably was the pathway and the foundation kids and their parents, but arguably ive seen similar crowds for a mens 50 over game in recent years,
The cricket was good too, thought Durham bowled really well, although a bit a lull after having them 65/5, i thought they could have brought Levick on sooner as she always seems to get wickets, Turner looks a real talent too, she was top wicket taker in the 50 over comp last year, and the fielding i thought was really good, Durham looked far better in the field, Essex seemed to have a fumble everytime the ball the ball was picked up, Could maybe blame some very Cold hands
Bit of worry when Marlow went early, but Armitage and Bates were very Steady in the approach, took a while and played themselves in, then it never looked in doubt, Great piece of business to get Bates for the whole season, Maybe some arguably bigger names gone to other counties but a lot for shorter deals or just a few games, She looked a class act yesterday
great start hope they can keep it going, i know theres a few questions over it finances and what it brings in, but surely we have to at least give it a chance to try and sustain itself, womens sport is growing really quickly, so who knows where it will be in a few years time, and if we get the massive windfall from the ECB of the 25million, as a Dad of daughters ive no arguments if a bit of it is used for womens cricket.
