Durham v Worcestershire : CC September 15

Struggling to understand why Worcestershire have effectively elected to relegate themselves. Showed ZERO intent to hunt bonus points yesterday or today, even when it became apparent that they were in a strong position.

1 bowling point hurts us, but if we get some batting points and draw, it’ll lift us ahead of Hampshire should they capitulate at Somerset.

I was listening to the wireless this morning and the commentators were wondering out loud why he isn't in the Ashes discussion. Difficult to put up an argument against.
Maybe Rod Bransgrove has paid them behind the scenes to limit our opportunities for batting bonus points?
He sounds like a creepy travelling salesman from The Office. Best mates with Chris Finch?

Literally all it can be now 🤷‍♂️

Unless they think they can bowl us out twice in a day and a half but want the extra cushion for the follow-on.

they might fancy it but it does seem a bit strange. just declare and make a game of it.

Durham really need to get stuck in here given Hampshire are up against it

Why are Worcester continuing to bat when there are no further batting points available?
May chose to do a Surrey and go for their record total. Its a viable option for any county against our bowling attack and they have a day and a half to bat. Imminently possible, for the record they need 702.

Regarding the CC being restructured I was just thinking this yesterday, both teams give the impression that there is nothing to play for despite the championship table suggesting the complete opposite. It’s like they both know something that has not yet been announced and are just going through the motions as they are both safe. It seems there is literally nothing to play for.
I think this feels like it’s true. And if it is, in the short term it lets us off the hook. But it feels like it could be just about a final nail in the coffin of the championship as a credible sporting event.

The progressive removal of the centrally contracted players and the tournament’s marginalisation to spring and autumn have made it the poor relation and shadow of its former self, but for those of us that still see two innings time cricket as the purest form of the game, and perhaps the most sublime thing in sport, it still retained some credibility. That’s gone if this season is written off. Every day I went to championship cricket this year then turns out to have been a day that was competitively irrelevant. Every moment I invested turns out to be a moment of no significance. Not just because we were crap. I’ve seen enough of that over the years. But because as it turns out it didn’t even matter that we were crap. What a waste of my time and money.
