Durham v Worcestershire [a] C.C. 8/5/26

Also to note, this has been a very poor first hour from Durham in my view. No real impetus or obvious plan, seemingly just waiting for something to happen as opposed to forcing the issue. With a bit of intent and determination we could’ve been batting by now.

The warning signs were there. A horrific performance from Durham this morning I’m afraid - absolutely no aggression or intent whatsoever. Came to the ground with them 7 down and with a pair batting 10 and 11 with just two FC games between them and we’ve been so complacent and so passive and presumably totally expectant upon the wickets falling instead of forcefully making them happen.

The only silver linings are that it’s saved our openers having to endure a tricky pre-Lunch spell and perhaps it’s a sign that this pitch is very placid and we should expect to comfortably go past their total.

Ultimately, to allow them to achieve 300+ after having them 189-7 is an absolute catastrophe.
52 off 30 overs, you have to question the point

It is worth consideration.

Just confirming the obvious that we have no depth to our attack. Hopefully Olivier will provide another quality option
Aldridge is a class slip fielder but doesn't enhance the bowling attack

His inclusion is definitely something to look forward to. The prospect for next week of Raine, Potts, Stokes & Olivier is scintillating.

I just hope they don’t rest Raine.

308 all out, 5 wickets for Raine, about 70/80 too many than they should’ve got mind.

Decidedly second best so far today, two hideous dismissals with our openers hanging their bats out to balls they didn’t have to play at. Under the cosh big time now.

I said on the first morning I was worried about the balance of the side and the potential for complacency setting in and here we are on the second evening staring down the barrel of conceding a first innings deficit to a severely depleted Worcestershire side.

That’s all four dismissed Durham batsmen, including the England captain, who have thrown their wicket away playing away from their body to balls that weren’t going anywhere near their stumps.
