Durham v Derbyshire 11th-14th July

Bostock said at the end of season forum that they leave the overseas appointment as late as possible because of the ever changing international calendar and Petersen at the time of his appointment appeared to be a shrewd signing. However after the early season series of CC matches it appeared obvious that the bowling department was the priority weakness given Potts international call up and Rushy loss of form. Both appear to be long term issues. No hindsight involved recognising that need for the final rounds of these matches. Even allowing for Lees absence batting looks sound enough with Jones, Bushnell, and Trevaskis all showing promise alongside Dickson, Bedingham and Borthwick. Can't understand Maddinson appointment.

Franklin states such in his match preview.
According to some Franklin doesn't do interviews or play young players

Do I detect an air of sarcasm?
Pre-match statements are not interviews.
Franklin did a total of 2 interviews throughout the T20 campaign and gave 1 young player a total of 2 games. "Some" would appear to be making valid claims.
Maybe young players weren't ready he sees them say in day out

Presumably that's his view. There's only one way to test that view.
There has to be a balance like everything I just think people just automatically think Chuck loads in results will improve young players who are rated like Trev get a game, there is probably only bushy who could have played earlier, they even gave Gibson a chance before and clearly he wasn't ready, I firmly believe we will be giving more chances in the one day cup

I don't think anyone has suggested "Chuck loads in". Obviously there's a need for balance which doesn't alter the fact that that Franklin rarely gives interviews nor encourages youth. That's not leadership imo.

Apart from bushy does anyone else stand out as I say Gibson got a chance and didn't look ready there has to be a element of trust that the coach knows who's ready and who isn't Potts has developed brilliantly, trevaskis is getting better I'm sure we would all love to have more local lads in let's hope they get a chance soon.

Potts and Trevaskis were in the 1st team pre Franklin. Colly recognised Potts as England potential then. Franklin's been here 3 years and no one has progressed to senior cricket.
We'll beg to differ. You obviously believe our lead high performance coach is fulfilling his obligations. I think he's a charlatan. We'll leave it there. No problem.

Now you are just making things up

Good-it would be a boring forum if everyone agreed all the time. For what it's worth I think the two Mac's will debut today. Best wishes to them.
Add Bushnell to that as Franklin implies Maddinson will open with Lees.
"Nic Maddinson has now arrived and is set to make his Durham debut on Monday at the top of the order, while 18-year-old wicket-keeper batter Tom Mackintosh will take the gloves in professional cricket for the first time, having been included in the 13" .

Good to see Franklin playing youth 🙂

Wedding anniversary & I'm off to the cricket   (other half is of course away with work). No idea what to expect from Durham today, just as much I have no idea what to expect from Derbyshire. Looks like the weather will be nice finally for the county Durham upper. Praying for a decent wixket. Haway the lads

In the abscence of information regarding injuries and contracts (surprise, surprise) I believe we may have seen the last of Eckersley and Salisbury.
Disappointed for Matt Salisbury, I like him as a bowler and his figures are good. If he cannot get into the squad ahead of Gibson and McAlindon, where does he go from here ?

Always gave 100% did Salisbury but as you say it seems like he has no future. Interesting that Marty didn't state why Eckersley was missing.....

Just been talking to three Derby's supporters who were most surprised when I told them they are favourites to win.

The wicket is over towards the old scoreboard and there's a temporary stand between the Gym and the sightscreen.

@GordonMuchallNo1Fan may combust when he sees the state of the outfield next to the Trapdoor...and to think they don't allow members to walk around the boundary during breaks.

Just put my shorts on for the first time in three years and the sun has gone in.

Real shame - he's head and shoulders above those two from what I've seen.
