Durham’s T20 Campaign

Robinson with the stumping too ;).

The point is, we were desperate for a spinner due to injuries and a very capable one was available.

I completely understand your stance on loanees from outside, but there’s a balance required. Clearly the coaching staff didn’t feel like what we have in reserve is quite capable or ready (or both) to make the step currently.
We’re surviving on scraps at the moment. Needs must!

I just think it more sums up the lack of long term planning at the club

We’ve lost two frontline spinners to injury. Our main marquee overseas man and Scott Borthwick. I’m not sure many counties would have ‘longer term’ plans that would mitigate for such a loss.

Too many random players in the team just passing through

Only two if you take away the overseas players. Who up to now, I reiterate, have done themselves justice.

The time lacks an identity and you can see that in the results

A few mock the cal for local lads but all our success is based on that plus 2 quality overseas

I wouldn’t ever ‘mock’ the call for local lads given I’m one of the biggest champions on this forum of our phenomenal record of producing homegrown talent. Which actually brings us nicely onto a bigger point here - I think all this criticism of the clubs selection/acquisition process is very very harsh. Please remember - and all the naysayers need to take note here - we currently have 4 players (soon to be 5) on England duty who would walk into the side (in all formats) AND 3 players out injured who would also walk into the side.

Show me a county (except Yorkshire in fairness) who could cope with having 7 (SEVEN) starters unavailable for a stretch of time?

Loaning players in isn’t ideal and it does potentially look ugly, but I maintain my stance that it’s necessary in the circumstances when we don’t have the depth and the youngsters waiting in the wings just aren’t quite ready. You can do more harm than good to young lads who aren’t quite ready for their chance in the side.

His record in T20’s isn’t great - seem to remember him getting a lot of tap towards ‘the end’ of his involvement in it.

Agree it made no sense to leave him out the 50 over stuff though.

I'll bet it's a damn sight better than coughlin!

It really just seems like we play the ones who aren't good enough to get a game in whites in the limited stuff whether they suit it or not. I do get the argument of 'takes it seriously or stop signing overseas and just play bairns but I don't want to see us getting beat by 100+ runs or give five-ten wickets every match

I’ve no doubt he will do well like but why wasn’t whitehead backed over a period

Genuinely don’t know enough about him to make a judgement.

I just look at the XI tonight and it’s a random selection of players

.

As I said, that’s what happens when you’re missing 7 starters.
We’re surviving on scraps at the moment. Needs must!

This is the crux, for me.

Coughlin is a three dimensional cricketer though, Rushy is not. That’s important in white ball cricket.

All of success is based on top quality local lads slowly introduced into a very strong side with strong culture built around mostly overseas players. Rocky took ages to develop and both he and Jennings were regularly hounded on here by people who called the club. To say otherwise is retiring history

If we'd decided local is best and never signed boon, benki, diva, Thorp, Blackwell, Gibson, breese we'd never have the success that players like mustard, borthwick and stokes built upon

True... Although I was defending him and the club the other day when someone was moaning about 'a bowler coming in at five' 😂😂

Honestly the number 11 rarely makes a difference and I think we'd get better value having rushy bowling and promoting sometime like Eck or Raine up the order them having coggers in the team. Or whoever
