Durham’s T20 Campaign

Whole thing has been an absolute disgrace & embarrassment. Not sure what to make of the 50 over competition, all depends if Franklin fucks off to the 100 I guess. Youth/Academy lads must be bemused watching the same serial failures continue to fail yet continue to be selected every game, unbelievable stuff. 3 wins in 13 combined with 1 win in 8 in the county championship is an absolute disgrace.
Well I have been giving the XI for the 50 over comp a bit of thought. So as far as the batting goes Lees will be available for at least the first four matches and it's the only cricket he has to prepare for South African test series. Dickson if he is fit will be desperate to play as he has missed a big chunk of the season with injury. Borthwick is the skipper so he plays. Then we have 2 overseas batsmen. Then you have Clark who was the best Durham batsmen in the tournament last season and is basically a one day specialist.
The bowling maybe a little more open with Potts and Carse unavailable and the chance Coggers and Raine don't play the whole tournament.
It looks like another season where we get bullied in the T20 blast then bully other counties 2Xls in the 50 over comp.

Only Carse and Potts are missing during the RL50 which should make us competitive. Bedingham is now fit and Dickson imminently. Hopefully Bushnell and Killeen jnr will be given opportunities. I think we have a strong squad for all competitions but confidence must be shattered owing to an apparent lack of tactics. That's got to be down to Franklin. Unfortunately I don't think he's got a Hundred gig so we're still stuck with him. Nor have we an obvious leader on the pitch. I seriously worry about our long term future under the current management.

Yeah I've not seen anything mentioned about him with the 100 which worries the life out of me. Dickson was hoping to be back for the next red ball game (his words to me a few weeks ago). Good amount of younger players could be given a chance, and I hope we see some of them soon. There has been no plan/tactics in this T20 campaign and the red ball form is very poor also. I share you concerns and worry under this management, it's a results business and it speaks volumes under this management

There's a 20 year old DUCCE student playing for Felling who is leading wicketkeeper in NEPL., Josh Allinson. Played for the 2nds v Kent. Love to see given a chance in the RL50.

So do you think they should play the strongest available XI in the 50 over comp. Personally I think there has to be a degree of using it as development if players and I don't just mean making up the numbers but players given key roles in the team a bit like what they did with Scott Steel.

Personally I'd like to see a mix like last year which obviously worked well. Likes of Bushnell, Doneathy, Crawshaw (not sure how long he's injured for) most definitely need game time. I'd expect to see Wood involved early doors along with Lees. Borthwick and Clark will be involved as will the Australian lad we have signed. All going well Dickson should also be back. Personally if we had to assign key roles to youth then for me it would be Bushnell and Doneathy.

Problem with that is there's nowt coming through. Possibly Crawshaw if fit in addition to Bushnell and Killeen. Others appear to have regressed.

I agree but if Bushnell plays I want to see him batting at 4 in the order. If it's Crawshaw I want to see him opening the batting that is the role they are preparing him for. I don't want to see them batting at say number 7 which is not where they bat. Bushnell is slightly different as he is a one day all rounder which gives him more versatility.
What I don't want to see is a line up of say
Lees
Clark
Dickson
Maddinson
Bedingham
Borthwick
Then a couple of youngsters making up the numbers and are getting the nid because they are good fielders. I would prefer to rotate the senior players sand give at least one but preferably two rookies defined roles.

I honestly don't know how good this group are as they don't play as an academy team in the NEPL and i don't actually get to watch them play. But a fair crack in this competition would be the right move if they are looked upon as having a chance of being good enough.
A bit like Jones in this T20 he probably wasn't going to play if it hadn't been for injuries but he had been given more than a fair crack of it and I would say in this form of the game he has come up short. But he was given the role that was familiar to him at the top of the order.

That's probably what the line up will be because that's Franklin's mantra. The RL50 is designed to be a development competition so youth should be given a chance. Doubt if Lees will play as it largely coincides with the Saffers series. Clark had a very moderate T20 campaign so wonder if it's the end of the road for him.
ideally I'd go
Jones
Crawshaw
Bushnell
Dickson
Bedingham/ Maddinson
Trevaskis
Doneathy
MacIntosh
Raine(capt)
Killeen
Rushworth.
