But what absolutely CANNOT happen is for us not to compete properly and to be on the end of a hammering, they will never let us forget it. I feel like a lot of Newcastle fans are desperate for us to play our pantomime villain part: e.g. "Grr we are better than you we will beat you".

For many of them there is a huge chip on their shoulders, they need to feel like the underdog, even though they have absolutely everything going for them. The need to feel aggrieved and overcoming some great adversity, which means they aren't satisfied with Sunderland fans saying "Yep we know you are miles ahead of us and will probably win with ease". They want us to be arrogant, some kind of vanquished evil foe, when really they are going to be kicking a defenceless puppy.

Alese has been 2 or 3 weeks away from returning for 4 months. I think he has phased out of existence. The universe will not accept him playing again for us. Cirkin is the kind of player we want in a game like this but is almost as nailed on for a red as Onien.
