Donald on our January budget

He mentioned that as something that’s being looked at, it sounded as though discussions were on-going and it’s likely to happen to me. Just my interpretation mind

I would think this would have to be a short term deal or wait until we are in a higher league, as I'm sure the amount they could sell it for at the moment would be low give n our position?

When you say about them selling to Juan if promoted, do you think that will end just a shift to them becoming minority shareholders? I would think they would want to stick around at least 5-10 years as I'm sure although it's hard graft they are enjoying the challenge.

I think, just my opinion, that they are enjoying it too much just to disappear over the horizon. If things are going well I can’t see why they wouldn’t want to be involved in owning a football club, who wouldn’t be if they had the resources :)

All of this absolutely had to happen for long term gain. It’s the polar opposite of a billionaire writing checks from another continent to a chancer ceo to keep the safc building upright on foundations of sand.

They haven’t got much leeway due to Ndong Djilobodji mcgeady Oviedo and cattermole still being here on PL contracts. Business rates reduction, stadium rights and other revenue streams that Davidson? Is bringing in might increase the chances of an incoming player or two in January assuming the big contracts still haven’t gone.

It’s possible safc won’t be able to properly be punch it’s own weight for two years is the way I see it. If Ross gets a promotion in that time it’s a big bonus.

Surely the owners could take a little bit themselves in order to secure young players like maja who will be looked at.

I'm all for self sustaining but some situations are slightly pressing. Not convinced the owners are able to spend much if their own dosh

They are both what most of us on here would consider wealthy chaps, but in football club ownership terms, they are paupers compared to many in the PL and Chship.

Luckily we dont have thousands of you...we definitely wouldnt go up with that attitude

I find it staggering that hundreds of so called fans of Safc just don't get the overall financial situation given the amount of publicity about it and, the openness of the owners about things

So what’s happened to the £35m parachute money? Intended for exactly this purpose? We all know it’s not sustainable in league one, but the whole point of those payments is to allow the transition.
£20m of it went on paying transfer fees for players signed before the new owners got here...some of it went on buying the club out of contracts..and some of it will go to fund the multi million pound losses..

If we don’t get promoted it’s an absolute fuckin disaster

I can’t believe People are sayung it’s a bonus

They have the club DEBT FREE

They’ve barely paid anything for it

There is no excuse

debt free is largely irrelevant...the business is losing millions of pounds..has just had its income slashed...the truth is sunderland wasnt worth much at all...its persistently loss making with a huge amount of fixed costs versus a declining amount of revenue...

You need to find out the definition of disaster.
Going out of business would be disastrous. Making the same mistakes would be stupid. Getting the club self sufficient from where the new owners started is likely to take 2 years - that is just a fact we have to live with.

What Losses? Shorty wiped the slate.......

thats the debt..but the business is budgeting to lose £5m this year..Ellis is not paying for that..and the £5m loss was based on us having a much smaller wage bill than now..

When we no overall debt and they got the club for nowt.....that's buttons, they need to do whatever it takes to get N'Dong oot the Fookin door

I didn’t realise that the financial state was still as precarious until reading that article.
I’d love us to invest more but wouldn’t want another financial mess by trying to push the boat out.
Will be a very interesting January.

It doesn't feel precarious to me. The problem is more to do with cash flow while the legacies unwind. That's more a matter of timing than an underlying existential problem, which was looming under Short if not already there. The reassuring thing is that the new owners seem, at least to me, to know what they're doing. We'll be able to do what is needed, but perhaps not as quickly as originally hoped. If it became critical, ie if a player was absolutely needed in January, or it became urgent to get one or two new contracts over the line, I suspect the money would be found. But if not, then we'll be financially conservative until the position stabilises, or promotion means we need to tap into the resources available to Sartori. That may, by the way, involve the reappearance on inter-company loans. As we've seen with other clubs, that's not a particular problem so long as the owner doesn't want or need to be repaid.

they paid £48m to ellis...and are budgeting to lose £5m this year which they will have to find..and to lose money next year..which they will have to find..

the wages to turnover ratio is surely way to high for a business to be sustainable?

No

We need to get promoted

Some of the posts here are staggering

In every business you need to put a bit of investment to get things going

debt free is largely irrelevant...the business is losing millions of pounds..has just had its income slashed...the truth is sunderland wasnt worth much at all...its persistently loss making with a huge amount of fixed costs versus a declining amount of revenue...

They have to deal with it but they seem unwilling to do so with any of their own money

Remember this is why Short wiped the debt

They’ve got one of the best deals ever
