Don Goodman

He was a disgrace last night he really was. Sky as a whole have now allowed their coverage to become dominated by what would be the best story rather than the live action. They were gagging for “Tom Brady’s Birmingham overturn Ipswich, a Premier League side from last year, on return to Championship” As a result they didn’t commentate properly on a blatant foul that lead to Birmingham’s rightly disallowed goal and the blatant handball for the penalty. No wonder referees are so maligned, as they’re not judged on decisions in law, they’re judged on what Sky want the decision to be based on their desired storyline and that dictates the narrative.

They also ignored a fan trying to punch Taylor in the head during their coverage. Wouldn’t want to upset Tom Brady on Day 1. They broadcasted live from St Andrews as they couldn’t wait to talk to the Americans in the flesh. Usually they just broadcast from a studio in London. It’s embarrassing really.
Agree he seems like a nice bloke and he was one of my first Sunderland strikers I remember as a kid. But my lord he’s terrible as a pundit, like you say sky as a whole just push a narrative and not what’s actually happening in front of them. The amount of times I had to hear frank lamaprds Coventry and how they outplayed us etc was cringy.

The mlf who works for sky pretty much said in Haway the pod that sky work on what’s getting clicks and what’s the trend rather than the football. It’s all about a narrative they treat it like a popularity contest rather than a sport.

Been like that for years, since Sky wanted footie to be wrestling.

Bravo. 👏

What's wrong with some on here, if he doesn't say wonderful things about Sunderland then so what, if he said oh joyous Sunderland this oh beautiful Sunderland that on a match involving Sunderland he would be accused of bias, he has to be neutral, give good and bad feedback, imo I like him and loved him when he played for us.
Afternoon Don.
Ex footballers commentating games is poor mind. Half of what they spout is shite, a lot of the time there is no need to constantly talk drivel. Radio commentators imo are better, just describe the action.

This. Birmingham striker barged Greaves under the ball and Goodman spouted crap. Has a narrative in his head and his commentary doesn't bear resemblance to what is happening. Same with Hinchcliffe.
Exactly. It was so blatant but he was robbed of his commentary moment by the inconvenience of things like laws and fairness.

Personally think players who come up here and get sold on the vibe of the place with the history and it doesn't quite go as planned and they are disappointed when get sold are very bitter..Goodman,.McClean and kilbane being three examples

Can’t blame players for looking after their personal interests, they only get 1 chance at a short career. Goodman seemingly stopped trying at West Brom to get a move to us , then did similar here . We must have understood?

His commentary almost poured cold water on Watsons goal in the final when you watch it back. Goes on about how he felt for Shef united and how it was against the run of play. At least get excited first and report how mental the moment was! Shite pundit.
