You can lose a game of football to one of the top sides of the division you know, especially with the heart we showed. It’s a positive that we are showing battle with 10 men.

Absolutely mental you are
Mate. I’ve said already in the thread, and I can’t really go further, but if it was known , then I feel it would help people understand this poster

Took a glance at the relegation odds to get the general sentiment as captured by the bookies, we are now as strong as 8-1 for relegation.
(11th from Bottom)

The weak sisters are:
Reading, Rotherham, Birmingham

Mate. Having done 19 years of service on here I realise there are people on here that think that sun shines out of every SAFC players arse and there are others that think no matter what happens, the SAFC world is imploding tomorrow.
You’re the latter. You’ve had plenty of, ‘he’s a Mag’ shit thrown at you. For the record, I don’t think you are. Not that it matters.
No idea how long you’ve been watching SAFC or football in general. Appreciate I’m sounding condescending here but when a team plays for an hour with 10 men away from home against a team expected to finish top 6 and ends up losing by one that’s a decent effort.
It boils my urine that no matter what SAFC do, people on here bitch or see the negatives.
We’re competing with pretty much the lads that got us out of L1. Our front two - would you swap them for anyone else in the division? I wouldn’t.
Yes, we’re short. Yes we need signings. However, I don’t have to tint my red and white glasses too much to see that we are massively competitive. If a f***ing goalkeeper hadn’t scored on Saturday and we played with 11 tonight we could be top of this league.

Perhaps one of the best posts I’ve seen on here.

I’m of the opinion we were the better side up until the red. At times we looked the better one with ten…

Of the first four games in this league.

1. We’re dangerous. Stewart and Simms and Pritchard and our wing backs… we’ll score goals in this league.

2. We are however a bit naive. To be expected with quite a young squad that’s just come up.

I think Wycombe lost what? Their first 9/10 games when they came up… we’ve lost one, with 10 men and to be honest we gave a good go of it.

We’ll be alright, we might be better than alright. Depends who we bring in. Give it til the end of the window.

Yeah but bookies are inconsistent, if we win or draw our next game the odds will change.
They should give their odds before the first game and be made to stick to them.

Good post, except would probably swap them for Ismaila Sarr and joao Pedro  Although they will probably be sold for a combined 70m in the next week or 2.

What in the name of sweet Fuck are you talking about? I have replied in a reasonable manner. Say what the Fuck you want in the matchday thread I havnt read it. Im on the bus home. I’ve said the early performances are promising not outstanding ffs

After losing 2-1 how are you able to say that? Fans seem more assured after losing than after a win these days. Defeats have replaced wins as the primary source of happiness and positivity it seems.

People would think we had won 2-1 if you read that and didn’t see the score.
You’ve misunderstood why people are reassured, and that’s ok.

People are seeing a good performance against a top championship side with 11 and then 10 men and extrapolating that over a season where we will generally have 11 men and thinking we’ll do ok against most teams. I was reassured by the commentators, who watch more championship football than I do, who seemed to suggest we looked decent. That is reassuring, and I harbour doubts this season and staying up is my aim

The thing I love about Alex Neil is that we look like a team now that we can be proud of regardless of the result. The effort and never die attitude will go along way. And we’ve got two of the best strikers in the league it appears.

I see. I’m so sorry I said all the vile things I said on the matchday thread. I take them all back. I see performances are valued above wins and points in Sunderland AFC. The result doesn’t matter to Sunderland supporters as much as the performances. Keep on playing like that and get the same result and everyone is happy. One bad performance and a win isn’t as good as a hundred good performances and no wins. Sunderland fans have always seen performances as more important than wins.
A rewriting of history there like.

People aren’t saying that results don’t matter. They’re saying that if we continue to perform like that the results will average out over the season and we’ll be fine.
