Dogs of The SMB.

We took Cassie, a black lab, to trying classes which were great. We continued the training and she understands what we want her to do. If she has been running in wet fields, she knows to sit on a towel in the kitchen beside the back door. I tell her to lift a paw, starting with the front ones when she is sitting. When it is trine to dry the back paws, I ask her if she hates the Mags. She stands up as when I was training her I said stand up if you hate the Mags.
Maybe a bit sad, but it makes me laugh every time.
She takes a plastic bone to my wife every night as the Mrs has started to put treats in it. The dog never comes to me with it. The dog has different routines with us when it comes to bananas at breakfast.
She is nearly 2 year old but knows her routines and what she can have and she never oversteps the mark. She is very sensible and loving and we couldn’t ask for a better dog.

They are incredible.
Ted is 9 at the end of this month thus getting into his mature years.

Before we go out on a walk I say “stretch” and he will walk over on the mat and stretch out his front paws with his bum in the air.🤣
I give his front joints a good rub down.
I then say “carry you” and put his front 2 paws in the boot of the car and then I lift him up.

He knows the drill. 🤣
Number 4 is the only one that is nailed on marra. Not a chance in Hell that in my lifetime that I will love a dog as much as I love Bobs mate.

I have had dogs since my first GSD that I was given when I was 6 years old.
A very very special dog that GSD. He tought me how to love and treat a dog. All dogs are measured on the "Shep" Scale. 😁
My best friend from 6 to15. The best
Such a special man.

Had several since. All great in their own way, and been given love, and care.

Then came this little man.

A little working Cocker. As gentle as gentle can be. And like The Boss has with @Swindon On Tour , he owns my heart mate.

I am lucky because I have now had that twice in my life.

That's not ganna happen for a third time.

When we lose Ted we are going to have a break from having another.
We just won’t get another like him. He is unique.
Tell my Mrs (no) that you call him the boss 🤣. He would adore Bobs.

Met a 10 week old Cocker yesterday. Kept jumping all over him, then rolled over in front of him then back up licking him. The young lass was worried and told her not to be.
Next minute the dogs lead was wrapped around “the bosses” legs and he just stood still, back legs trembled and we had to untangle him with his tail wagging.
Just a big soft gentle giant.

I know exactly what you mean, sometimes a friend just ticks all the boxes from day one, from his eye contact to spending time with you when you're not well and he knows it so behaves accordingly. A little bit more so than others, that's not a criticism of the others just the connection happens between you. I knew one or two of ours couldn't be replaced so in such a case for yourself enjoy Bobs fully as things are.

As I've said to lots of people that lose a mate: Never make the mistake of taking on another that has to meet the standards already set, it won't happen because the new dog bears the brunt.

100% know what you mean. Had 2 rescues in my earlier years lived to 14 and 10. Part of my then family. loved them to bits and so did my family.

My third dog was a black Lab. I got him when he was 8 weeks old, I lived alone and was suffering a mental breakdown which led to my retirement. We spent 12 years together 24/7. The bond we had, love for each other and 2 way loyalty cant be put into words. I will cherish it always and take that love to my grave (along with his ashes which Ive kept for that reason).

I currently dog sit my kids 2 rescues 3 days a week, nice dogs but feelings arent there.

Ben would never be replaced.
I would have loved to meet him as sounds the perfect Lab.
Honestly this could be my last for similar reasons.

Sometimes that connection happens. The company through difficult personal health times stand for a lot & they never leave you. I sometimes feel a bit guity that the connection I had with one or two can never be repeated. It's only when you have such a link that you realise.

Take your time if anything happens with Ted, that's my suggestion with anyone when there's a friendship connection.

Definitely Mate.
Need time to grieve for sure and do a few things we couldn’t do.
He has always been put first. Gives us everything back and more.

My two are both 9, and in Wolfhound terms, that’s “letter from the Queen” territory.
They are both really showing it too. Still act like pups when we’re out, trying to chase anything that moves, but they suffer for it when we get home. Still have good appetites. This summer was brutal, so they are loving the cooler weather. Just hope that they make it through the new year.
I won’t be getting another dog, it gets harder every time one goes….
I’ve been honoured to be part of their lives. Privileged.

I've said that a few times through teary eyes when losing one, only you can decide when/if you want a new friend.
I'll be hopefully putting up a picture of our Golden Retriever next year.
You'll be so.....rry (ouch where's me slipper) through the teething stages. Only joking. look fowards to the newbie! We never learn

Beautiful.

That photograph says more than a million words could say about the 2 way love between a dog and his da.

We are very lucky people to experience that. ❤

Special, special bond you 2 have there mate.

It is an amazing feeling when that happens. ❤

Really making me think, would my little man like a companion?
Or am I just getting broody looking at her?

I think both of those answers are correct tbh. 🤣🤣🤣
Edit.....both answers are yes. 😁
Go for it mate, one life. Honestly had this dog 3 days and she’s made me happier than any human as. Gets her final needs soon then she’ll be my new drinking partner after a long walk haha

Lovely sentiment, and you are a lucky man that he came in to your life.

For the same reasons, I'm sure Bobs will be my last one.
I love working Spaniels and all Gun dogs, but they need a huge amount of exercise, and I'll be way past 70 when my little man jumps the rainbow. I wont be able to give another one what they need.

Just going to cherish every second of my part in his life and make his life the best it can be.🙂

Lots of mincing, get yourselves to the kennels and save some dogs. Lots of of us have stories about great dogs, save some lives.

We decided to get a dog as I had retired and we had the opportunity to buy a black lab puppy.
She is absolutely brilliant, easy to train. Full of love and wanting to please all of the time.

My little darling is 22 months old and we love her loads. I have taken early retirement and spend a lot of time with her

Bottom pick is so whippet it’s ridiculous.
Sighthounds look funny without a hound collar, we refer to ours as Loki long neck when his collar is off!
