Diarra lately

There's no guarantee it goes in if he goes down the side of Martinez by the way.

I'm sure people will recall he stopped France from winning the World Cup with a last second save from pretty much the exact same angle from Kolo Muani, who went down the side with power.

He is superb at quickly getting his leg out to those too.
He’s a world class keeper.

He also saves Isidor’s effort if he doesn’t slip.

I think it does mate. He’s sat Martinez down but he has some of the best reflexes in world football, as he’s repeatedly shown.
It’s a good save when you look back at it.
He was too close to the keeper to chip it over him. It would have taking a keeper error to score. Diarra messed up with his decision making, which is why he didn't score.

Yeah they played some decent stuff with McGinn and Cash. The level of the game is light years away fron the Championship. Watched Boro v Ipswich and both teams are shit. We went toe to toe with a top five team.

McGinn was excellent yesterday but I do feel we go that side of the pitch wrong yesterday.

It’s easy with hindsight but I think Hume does a better job on McGinn and Talbi would have put cash on the back foot.

Was listening to a pre match pod last week, I think what the falk, and the Villa lad said, they could be got at on left hand side.

I wasn’t advocating the reinildo Hume swap pre game, but I did think Talbi should have started on left.

Aye, if that had happened, we'd all be saying "keeper was going down, why didn't he just lob the f*cker?"

Kid can't win.
I think Martinez probably gets a leg on it if Diarra tries placing it bottom corner.

And Talbi's behind him for the pass.

It's just one of those.

Here's one of the best in the world in a 1v1 situation....

What are you doing here Cristiano??

Yeah Martinez stands big for a bit longer, though he's also reading Diarra's position and gambling as Diarra could have put it through his legs, He'd also slipped prior to Isidor goal as I also posted it as it may not have been as simple a finish as some thought.

Martinez slips which leaves a bit more space to score from but Martinez still gets his fingertips to the ball as Isidor doesn't put it out of his reach like you see sometimes. Shit happens and it's a pisser that Martinez chose to stay up longer and whip a hand up to save it.

Also isador doesn’t run straight at the keeper he angles it

He was excellent McGinn yesterday. His movement caused us real problems, always finding a yard of space.

Diarra missed a one on one away to Bournemouth recently, when he hit it low but the keeper made the save. Maybe that was playing on his mind when he’s one on one against a better keeper in Martinez.

Cheers for posting this, because I was under the impression Mings was a lot closer to that and would have easily cleared it.

It’s obvious from that if Martinez fails to get a hand to it, it’s a goal.

The more I see it, the more I think it’s a very good save. He comes out, stays big and gets a good reactionary strong hand to stop the chip.

Really annoying that he’s managed to save that, but I’m not going to go crucify Diarra over it.

He also won’t be able to see Talbi outside of
him, so it’s pointless saying he should have passed it. It’s a real life football game, not a match on fifa.
People keep saying he can't see talbi, surely talbi is screaming for it? If he doesnt, fair enough, but I'd expect a player at this level to have a bit more awareness about them.

The issue is the technique. He hasn't sat martinez down but he's made his mind up what he's going to do. He gets too close and doesnt make martinez commit.

I won't crucify him for it either but it was poor. He apologised for it after the game. Same with Enzo's panenka. It was poor but hopefully he puts it behind him and reacts the way Enzo did.

The moment it came at, and what it meant, make it look so much worse. Minute 1 in a win and we're probably not talking about it.

Watch carefully and you see the keeper start to drop low to his left leaving a spece high to his right. Diarra chips it there but the keepers arm reaches it. Good technique, great save.
I’d imagine Diarra is thankful of the technical advice from 19stone lager drinking kebab eaters though.

I agree with nearly all of that, aside from the finish. Even it beats Martinez there's not enough pace on the ball and the defender (Maatsen?) is getting back to clear it.

There's always a group of fans who reflexively hate our record signing.

Gyan used to get pelters, Bent did on and off, so did Gordon, even Le Fee did for a lot of last season.

€30m isn't that much in modern football, and Diarra looks every bit the raw attacking talent you get for £30m. His biggest issue that he's playing in the same midfield as the world-class Xhaka and the freakishly mature Sadiki.

The keeper should have had no chance of saving it. Do you understand that?

Its a bad miss but not an unforgivable one, he made a bad decision and it felt way worse in real time at the game and on the journey back.

I'm probably now more upset at the defending and lack of pressure on the ball/marking for the goals we conceeded having watched it back.

As awful as it feels the team are so young and need experiences like yesterday to learn from.

However I wouldn't have typed this last night as was livid, but perspective needed once the dust has settled.
