He'd have needed eyes in the back of his head for Talbi. He was right to have a go himself. It was just a poor finish that's all. Nothing more, nothing less.

I think some fans need to lighten up, cut a young lad some slack, and give him some support.

I like his energy but he is one of the most atrocious passers of a ball I've seen. In fact, that's probably why he didn't pass it to Talbi.

The thread is originally from the Brighton game when he was faking injury on the floor as they scored. Looks like the thread titles been amended by the mods and it’s kept going.

See, I know you've been around here for a very long time. You were part of the furniture when I signed up eons ago. We both follow the lads closely, and we've both seen a lot of football over the years.

Now given what I know about Sunderland football club over the years, and what you must also surely know, that has to be one of the most fuckin' ridiculous statements on here lately. What a complete load of bollocks.

Then again, I did always find your username to be a tad ironic.

Yeah Martinez stands big for a bit longer, though he's also reading Diarra's position and gambling as Diarra could have put it through his legs, He'd also slipped prior to Isidor goal as I also posted it as it may not have been as simple a finish as some thought.

Martinez slips which leaves a bit more space to score from but Martinez still gets his fingertips to the ball as Isidor doesn't put it out of his reach like you see sometimes. Shit happens and it's a pisser that Martinez chose to stay up longer and whip a hand up to save it.

Well, I could have added the caveat of "at this level" ,but I seem to recall even the Rat putting a few three yard passes together.

Yeah, the slip kills him, but I think it's Isidor's quick change in direction that forces that error. Good play from Wilson. He gives himself the angle to finish.

Diarra's run is straight at him, which gives Martinez more of a chance.

His first touch on his left to control the ball is excellent.

I thought he was having a good game first half. I thought we were. I thought 2-1 half time was a bit harsh on us.

The early goal second half kills us a bit, but we kept plugging away and get ourselves back into the game very late from nowhere.

I don't feel like anybody was particularly poor yesterday. I just think we came up against a good side in a good moment.

Villa's had a rough patch recently, and have been in similar form to us (we're actually in better form over the last 6), but they've got important players back and buoyed by their progress in Europe.

He will have to do the convincing to be fair. I think he has something and whatever the current view ( I have had nightmares about that miss) he has had an extremely interrupted season and has shown glimpses which I think will mature into a better player.

In respect of the miss, I can only draw comparison with how I felt about ELF after the Brentford penalty. Whilst ELF is my favourite player and had did have money in the back so to speak, I am going with it.

It can be both of those things imo, how many one on ones these days do you see dinked over keepers that land in the net? It’s quite common. For me though I’d still rather a player choose to do something where they have a bit more control over the ball, like Isidor did with a clinical finish. Looking at that slow mo replay posted, he got decent height on it so it wasn’t as if he tried it and just hit it straight at the chest of the keeper, a bit like Le Fee’s Brentford penalty. It was good goalkeeping, while also still clearly being a bad miss as any missed one on one is.

I came on here to say exactly this. His decision was nowhere near as bad as Elf's penalty. He had a decent game (and has been good in the last couple of matches) and the vitriol towards him is ridiculous. I just hope he puts it to bed against Forest, in the same way as Le Fee has, since Brentford.

Comparisons to NDong are pathetic. We need to get behind our young lads, not hang them out to dry. It's only a few games ago that Rigg was getting pelters, too.
 
Looking at the slow mo I don't think the chip is a terrible choice or even badly executed. He does disguise it reasonably too as the goalie is on his way down before he actually kicks it.

The problem was that he was quite straight on so you have a limited amount of corner to pick out. The goalie doesn't rush at Diarra's feet so rounding him isn't that easy either.. The keeper doesn't give him any really easy options.

It was a decent move all round up to that point and Diarra has now got himself into those situations a couple of times recently which is encouraging and why he is in the team. Is be far more worried if him and the team were getting chances at all tbh.

As mentioned earlier, we lost that game due to the defending.

Diarra's all round play was decent IMO. GOod at his defensive work and was dropping deep to show for the ball a number of times with tidy control and lay offs. Nothing flash but it let us keep possession at times and helped pull players around the pitch a bit which you need to do to make things happen. It was also Diarra showing up in the channel and getting a cross in that led to Rigg's goal.
