Des Lynam or Gary Lineker

I'm not gonna bring any non footballing feelings into this debate like others have and judge solely on the quality of their hosting.

For me, it has to be Des. I'm 35 now and Des was the voice of my childhood. I would religiously watch any of the PL highlights shows and he has such a calm and soothing tone. He didn't really need to sensationalise anything as he could just keep viewers engaged with his forthright nature and keeping things on point all the time.

I didn't really switch off when Lineker started hosting but I did when him and his co-hosts became more self absorbed and it became more about creating content and overexaggerating everything. It's just not my style but I understand it might well be others. I do think he was good at what he does though and appeals to a broader audience.

He never put any opinions across on MOTD that I seen. If you want to search out his personal social media then that's up to you. Doesn't float my boat.

I couldn’t stand watching his sanctimonious face on MOTD so was hardly likely to going searching for stuff. He quite deliberately put himself front and centre so his opinions were news. The guy thinks he is clever, but just the opposite side on the pig ignorant scale of someone like Trump.
Uneducated vain people stuck in a privileged bubble a million miles from reality
Des by a country mile, Jimmy Hill was a twat and too young to have seen coleman

Coleman was a brilliant presenter.

This comparison is a good example of how far the BBC has fallen over the past 30 years. It used to be viewed as a respectable and trusted service, now it's just one of many channels where the presenters think they are the main attraction, and the channel a platform to air their own personal views.

Lineker started presenting MOTD 26 years ago next month.

Your analysis is quite comprehensive for what would have seen you as a 9, possibly 10 year old.
