Depends what his plan is - rather have a younger, less well known manager on the rise than a so-called "big name" on the slide like Hodgson or Pearson personally.

Or a celebrity ex player like Giggs or Sherwood or even Kevin Philips. "I played for a big club so that means I will be an instant manager in the top leagues" - actually no it doesn't, please see Bobby Charlton.

My critieria for a manager is, above all else, someone who actually wants to commit to being at the club and living in the area.

I'm sick to death of managers who openly signal to the players that they're not committed and just 'pop in' when it suits them.

Di Canio had his faults but he was openly passionate about SAFC and the supporters ...... Moyes was just a parasite who sucked the life out of everyone.

Whoever we appoint needs to be given a 5 year contract and allowed to build a team, not just a collection of players who obviously don't have their heart in the club.

Spot on, like the beer & food in the Sloney Pony ;)

I can understand, to an extent, the scepticism and negativity around his potential appointment but I can't fathom how some posters can be so utterly dismissive of him on one hand whilst totally advocating Schwarz, with unqualified positivity and no reservation, on the other.

I don't dislike the idea of Schwarz but McInness has far better credentials and represents far less of a risk in my opinion.

Copied from afc-chat. It's incredible the arrogance some cash from Sky can give you lot.

They think having millions to spend makes them a big club. It doesn't. It gives fans like theirs the belief they can compete when in fact they just can't. The difference is that we are doing better in our league than they are in theirs. We also qualify for Europe and have beaten some pretty decent teams these last few years. Sunderland can only dream of doing that. It doesn't mean our league is shite, it just means they are shite in their own league setup. The money SKY throws at the premier league and what they throw at scotish football is relative to the success teams have.

We are classed as a pub league because we aren't as successful as some English clubs, yet based on the money we see in our game from SKY is it any wonder. Relatively speaking we do quite well when you consider there is fuck all money in the game. Throw £100m at any team and they should be good.

Having millions means fuck all if you yoyo between Championship and Prem. all it means is its cost your team shit loads more to just end up relegated. You could argue that's Sunderland are just a shite team, who spend millions in a decent league and get fuck all for it. They are up to their tits in debt and still think English football is the holy grail. English football is decent because of TV money, yet it is the sole reason why clubs like Sunderland are shite and in debt. They chase a dream that Tv money makes them believe is possible and where are they now? What have they achieved as a club ? Nothing.

Does that all translate as 'we don't want to lose our manager'?

And we'll still waltz away with your manager if we decide to...

Yet your manager and players would jump at the chance to join us

This ^

If McInnes is offered the job he'd jump at the chance. Apart form Celtic (who would never offer him a job) or Rangers (basket case) we'd be the biggest job he's likely to get offered. Plus the English league is a bigger challenge. Robbie Nielson left Hearts to go to MK Dons.

Mcinnes is quite popular at Aberdeen, if he leaves it will set them back when in real terms they are st the strongest thy have been for years.
It's common for fans to be pissed off and twist about the big boys (didn't many on here do it with the English fa).
Have some moral standards and don't rise to the bait. We are a mess and if Drek is the man to sort it then so be but don't cry when others slag us off.

I think they got knocked out of the Europa League qualifying last July by Maribor. They've just beaten Rangers away for the first time in 25 years. I think this guy needs a reality check and realise Aberdeen are a tin pot club.
