I find it so hard to motivate myself mate and simply can't some days , it's the good days that you have to make count. Totally understand the waiting thing as I go to the doctors and they say its just a waiting game or Rome wasn't built in a day but it just feels like am getting fobbed off most times. How you feeling today mate .

Cheers mate, feel just the same as I have done for the last God knows how long

I've got a few days off work in the next couple of weeks so hopefully I'll get myself sorted then

Haven’t posted in here for a very long time and I think even then it was probably only the once.
this is such a good thread with so much good information and help.
Thankfully over the past 6 Month Im the best I’ve been in probably 15 years. I’ve found exercise mainly walking and running have changed my life.
There’s been points over the past few years especially, where my wife should have wiped her hand of me and moved on, instead she has stood by me and seen me come out the other end to where I am today and il always be in debt to her for that. I’ve been in bad places where I’ve wanted to end it all but thankfully always came round in the end.
I’ve been on medication for years and wouldn’t dare come off it to be honest incase I go back to how I was. I’ve also tried CBT (hated it) 1-1 counselling which I found great. It never resolved the problem but just speaking to someone for an hour a week helped me and I’m running a half marathon next year for MIND because of this.
Suppose the reason I’m writing this is to show there is light at the end of the tunnel for people.

Lovely to hear that you doing better and good luck with your half marathon.
You're right, this is a fabulous thread with some amazing people willing to help others even when thing aren't Rosie for themselves.
Think @lucky is worth a particular shout out for being amazingly supportive and helping others in recent months but there's loads of others too.
I don't think I've ever seen a nasty post on this thread and it's a credit to all.

Been off work for the last 6 weeks or so with what happened and the great thing is that work have been extremely supportive. Went into work this morning to have a chat with my boss and he understands that I'm nowhere near in a place where I can consider coming back to work and just wants me to get better. He seems to think that I have a lot of things bottled up and right now, I just need to process all the shit from the last few years, otherwise I'll go back and either have a complete mental breakdown or I'll just go completely off on one. I think I agree with him.

Last Friday I had what I have described as 'a moment'. I don't want to explain the nitty gritty, but it led to the most manic depressive episode I've ever had and it was just started by something that I look back at now and it was completely insignificant. If I'm having moments like that and it just happens like a light switch going off, I'm not safe to go back into work yet.

The good thing is that it is less than a week until my first counselling appointment and I have occupational health from work a few days later, so I can talk to people more experienced in helping in these situations.

Sounds like you have got a great boss there Fred and dime good support lined up. Best wishes and regards Keep talking it can only help.

Mate counselling really helped me loads but occupational health even though they are supposed to be independant I found I couldn't open up as much , as I was asked are you happy to share this with work and a lot of my problems were work related. When I refused I was basically interrogated by work why I would not share details. It might have changed mate but hope everything goes well.

What do anti-depressants actually do/make you feel? Definitely feel like I have something wrong, I just have no enthusiasm for anything at all apart from work. I stopped going to the match, all I want to do is sleep and lie in bed.
Ahhh mate it's the worst lying in bed, but it's so hard to motivate yourself. I came off the antidepressants as felt they were doing nothing but I was drinking at the time so that might be why. A lot of people swear by them and I'm always the person you just do whatever is best for you as some things work for one person but not another. Mate you definitely need checking as it may be something underling as well as depression why your feeling like you do. Keep going pal 👍.

Thanks, I’m 100 per cent fine at work but as soon I finish I just don’t know what to do and just clock watch until I can go to bed. Just don’t get any joy or stimulation from anything other than work

I’ve been on sertraline for a couple of months now and can only describe it as feeling less anxious.

I still don’t feel right yet but they’ve made a difference.

I’d definitely advise speaking to your GP though.

Mate a lot say with antidepressants that they take a while to get in your system as well , good on you though mate for speaking out and if you ever need anything there is always someone around to help.

That’s a good thing if you can keep your routine by going to work. Nowt worse than sitting at home all day with no motivation. Sounds like textbook depression to me so see your GP. I’m on sertraline and have been for 5 + years so have had a mostly positive effect overall. Keep us informed mate especially if you feel it helps. Best of luck.

If they work then they make you feel normal. They do this by regulating your seretonin levels. Ive taken them for years. Its important to look at your life holistically though and not just rely on meds. Diet, exercise, environment etc.

Thanks guys, my girlfriend is practically forcing me to go to the doctors. I’m just so embarrassed to go and just want to pretend everything is fine
Nothing to be embarrassed about mate and its great that your girlfriend seems supportive even if a bit too much so! My wife is so supportive for me. I think everyone goes through mental health challenges in their lives. About 1 in 7 adults take antidepressants. You posting on here is a great first step.

Don’t be embarrassed mate. There’s nothing to be embarrassed about. Your feeling low and not to well so you need to go to the doctors the same as if you had a physical illness. We’ve all been there (and still are there and have to go to the doctors a few times a year)
My symptoms started with wanting to sleep all the time and losing interest in everything and everyone.
Let us know how you get one mate.

Nowt to be embarrassed about bonny lad. Your lass is doing the right thing as well. I struggle everyday have done for past 12 year. Been fine lately after a bad patch start of the year. And today and tonight I’ve felt really unhappy for first time in ages.

Just been sitting cuddling the dog telling him I love him. Feel funny tonight for some mad reason.

Hope everyone is as well as can be and keep on plodding on. Lots of love Rhubarb. Xx
