Depression

Can anyone help. Just in general. I’m looking for like short term practical help, I wouldn’t say panic attacks but when you are getting to that state and just feeling frazzled and mind racing to worst scenarios etc, full of anxiety.

Sometimes just literally need to stop that when it starts quickly.

Aye true

Bourdain I can relate to a bit, spend a lot of time abroad and I think some people think I’m doing better than I am. Can be very lonely.
Have a read around ‘anchoring’ as a mindfulness technique, it can be really useful for people who get anxious.
So you agree regarding the problems that arise from not being able to cope with others opinions...that's a start 👍
I see depression as the period of time it takes to tire from whatever problem originally caused a negative mindset. We may know full well why we didn't get a particular job, or why a partner left us etc, but it is human nature to over analyse. My second wife (I've had a few) left me because I was selfish and a little lazy, and so easy it would have been to put my hands up to that at the time, but I just had to crack that egg. Inside I found the white and the yolk but decided to look for something more complex that shifted blame away from me. After six weeks of dissecting this symbolic egg I ended up with scrambled egg...it was all one colour so no longer could I see the white and the yolk. I had exhausted all other possibilities and realising this released me from depression. In a few days came elation as I now had a new reference point of lowness. I never cracked another egg.
This really isn’t the thread for one of your self-indulgent rambles that you know will just wind people up.

Thanks Becs.
Hello mate . I’ve been reading your posts from the shadows and I can’t keep quite no longer..

I’m no expert on mental health but your story of what you’re going through sounds familiar to people I know.
You need to stop beating about the bush mate and get this sorted. Never mind being fobbed off, take a day off work and go to the doctors or A-E if you have to. I couldn’t care less about and appointment go 1st thing when they open the doors with your lass or a member of family who won’t fuck about and insist on seeing someone NOW. Thats what happened with my family member when they where on the edge, they where dragged down to the doctors by my aunty ( whose a right gobshite )without any appointment and sat there until something was done.

Do this for your bairns mate, as it’ll be making your little lass poorly not just now but the rest of her life if owt happens to you or if it goes on any further. I’ll take you to the doctors myself if you want on Monday and I’ll f***ing make sure your seen to.

We need to stop f***ing about here mate as it’s critical. Haway let’s get this sorted .

I'm well today and will be on the mental health stand in the Beacon today if anyone wants to drop by.

Menopause brain fog: I've got a little bag I take on dog walks loaded with treats, poo bags etc. Stuck my purse in it yesterday as I needed something from the shop while I was out with the dog. Took the dog to my Mam's last night as he's staying there while we're away. Was packing last night and went to take my purse out of my everyday handbag to put it in my flight bag and it wasn't there. Major panic wondering where the hell it was until I remembered putting it in the dog bag and I've taken it to my Mam's. I'll have to collect it on the way to the match today. It's just stupid things like that which irritate me.

You're not alone. I tell my partner the same thing at least 3 times, constantly loose things and when I switch between screens/applications at work I can literally sit for about 2-3 mins trying to remember why/what I'm meant ti be doing. It's completely bizarre.

I have like a short term brain loss as well mate it gets frustrating forgetting words etc but mine was through too much sodium which has caused stroke like symptoms the way they explained it , could it be anything like that with yourself mate ?
Just asked my wife and the correct name is centralpontinemyelinolysis 🤷‍♀️ , get a canny scrabble score for that :) .
Might be worth looking it up and see if there is any parallels with yourself.
Hope you doing ok though and need anything answering just ask and I'll ask my wife 😊.

💜 No, mine is definitely menopause brain too 🤣. Thank you for the thoughts though ,💜.
Perhaps we should have a menopause thread 🤣🤣🤣. That would no doubt send some people on the main board into meltdown.

What time are you picking me up for the flight? I promise I will behave this time. I can get to Scotch Corner - the hotel not the services. You will be able to see me from a distance. Big yellow coat and a hazard light on my hard hat. Little secret - I have £5 spending money so we can go a bit mad.

I hope you and yours have a great time. x

I can sort of see the sense in some of this. I agree bits seem a bit esoteric (think that is the right word) but I can relate to some. Depression being the time it took to what originally caused the negative mindset can be a description of some depression (remember all depression is not the same). So for instance trauma in childhood which can lead to depression in later life is still you trying to work through it and recover.

The egg white and the yolk bit, to me tho is more a symptom of some alcoholics I have known. My friend always had another reason she had to have a drink and couldn't stop (always looking for something else that was not the obvious, I.e. the white and the yolk). So for instance I can't stop now my mam is ill. I can't stop now, I've twisted my ankle. But like depression reasons for drinking are as myriad as reasons for being prone to depression, anxiousness and despair.

Had to read it a couple of times to get the gist mind, if I did get your gist Gelan and didn't wildly misinterpret. Saying that I do think it could have been written in a simpler manner, mind remember I am the person who gets anxious if I think my meaning is not absolutely clear.

Can't argue with that. You pussyfoot around, not wanting to trouble anyone and you'll just get brushed under the carpet.

Vicious circle of the most needing helping being the least assertive to demand it.

Any updates mate? Don't be afraid to let it all out with the GP too, sometimes when you finally start explaining everything to someone it can be emotionally overwhelming and even that first step can be a huge relief.

I had an absolute arsehole of a GP years ago who constantly argued with every point I made, it wasn't just me, he was known for it. I changed to another and the difference was night and day, he was happy to overrun the appointment and asked all the right questions instead of trying to belittle.

In my experience GPs don’t really try to argue with you over this, if you just tell them how bad you are they’ll prescribe something

The real hard part is getting any sort of talking therapy, you just can’t get it

Some mates who earn more cash than me just pay privately

How are all doing? Sending love to everyone on this thread even if just reading.
Well I tried to go to work today and was up all night having panic attacks and sweating me tits off.
Sat and shed a tear like a loser this morning and couldn’t make it.
Spoke to my manager and trying again in morning.
Even if it’s just for a meeting.
See what happens.
Mad how this can turn a 41 year old man into f***ing tears and like a child. Hate the bastard thing with a passion.
Anyway I’m off to try and sleep and see what happens in morning but I’m adamant I’m going in.
I’ve grafted since the day I left school.
Keep on keeping on people.
Love Rhubarb. X
