Depression thread continued...

Guys I'm a psychy nurse and thought I'd give my thoughts on stopping medication. Please, consult your GP before stopping because there can be adverse effects to just stopping psycho tropic meds, one of which believe it or not, is increased risk of suicidal ideation. One more thing. If your medication isn't working discuss with GP. There are loads on market and it might be good to change meds or your dose may need to be increased

Take care all

Welcome to the forum hope springs. Could I ask you a question please?

Do narcassists get prescribed medication or do most go through life undiagnosed?

Ha ha narcism is a personality disorder. One person's narcism is a " confidence trait" they have, to others to have a label of narcism attributed to them is a negative, or being called "selfish full of themselves.". But if your being serious bud, as I said, to have a narcissistic personality diagnosis means the "problem" getting treatment. Any personality disorder - there are nine (with "sub" sections) can cause problems for people. Hope that makes sense.

King, just for clarity. A person displaying narcissistic personality traits may seek help, or be referred for further assessment. Following assessment, it may be that they inde are showing symptoms or traits of having a narcissistic personality. The health professional will then divide how best to support or " treat" the person depending on their assessment and health needs. Important to note bud, one prescription does not fit all. We are all different, have different health needs and will have different factors to address. For example, what are the persons socio economic circumstances, employment or support networks. All would be considered. For example a single mother with a lack of support may have different needs and factors to consider as opposed to say a Company director who has similar traits but for obvious reasons, has different circumstances to consider. I do hope that makes sense. Take care bud.

Hi People I attach a Link to the MIND website. PLEASE use it to get practicle advice on all things mental health. From symptoms, Diagnosis to medication advice. It is a wonderful source of information and importantly, is written in plain language. So people can get access to a wide variety of support. I recommend it to my students , but especially to the service users I support. It is VERY USER FRIENDLY.

I just wanted to say a few words on medication. Many people divide to stop taking their medication because "they're better". Guys it's because the medication is working l. It's "holding" you. That marked improvement you've noted is a consequence of the medication "kicking in therapeutically". Keep taking the medication but please if your experiencing side effects, speak to a health professional. Side effects can be life changing and have a terribly debilitating effects. Some medications have a higher side effect profile than others but there IS help available. Do not suffer alone. Take care all.

been taking half medication for a few days now, and by the end of this week I will then take that every other day to get to a point of cutting it out completely. Will be interesting to see how I feel once I am off of it.

Keep us updated mate. I know I'm not ready yet but ideally I don't want to be relying on Sertraline forever.
