Depression thread continued...

Don't apologise! I need to get away from here. Today's mission is to plan a week off and go stay with a friend in Oxfordshire.

Not that I can afford it like and would be terrified of the getting home effect
Change of scenery is a superb remedy. Instead of getting down about returning home, start planning your next jaunt on the way home.

Oooh poor lad. I live in Scotland and I swear to God mental health services....tho not perfect, sound like a hundred times better than that.
That's not reflective of all mental health services in the North East though. A family member had huge mental health issues starting at the back end of 2020 and still ongoing and the support we have received has been excellent. No waiting lists or anything like that.

spoke to someone quite quickly in the first instance, a phone call to answer some questions, then it took over a year for my first real appointment with talking therapies, I had 16 sessions after a long wait, because of rules I was discharged ( only allowed 16 sessions at a time ) and told to ring straight back up and ask for a second lot of sessions. that took closer to 18 months of waiting.

Granted it was level 4 sessions and needed someone who was trained in complex PTSD treatment, but it was a long old wait.
I really owe my life to being able to afford private psychotherapy. Whilst I do not have a C-PTSD official diagnosis, I do clearly suffer from it and I just cannot understand why such a short number of sessions is considered realistic by people designing treatments. You get 19 weeks for CAT and it is a substantially less harrowing and intense form of treatment.

There is nothing wrong with the NHS and they do their best, the problem is that so many people are in need of help the waiting list is astronomical. Hope you're all doing well... i've been doing canny recently.

It's great, just overloaded as you say. That will continue so long as mental health is one of the most invisible categories of illness. 16 sessions of psychotherapy being a key example, when even the milder variants of it are meant to be longer. Many of us would not even trust a therapist 100% in that time. It took me two years which might be atypical but by no means rare.

Great to hear you're doing well. I've had my longest ever sustained period of continuous wellbeing too now (6 weeks) and think I'm finally mostly well enough.

Thanks mate, life is controlling your demons and we are all doing ok in my book.

Therapists and counsellors are doing god's work (and this is an atheist, but i'm listening to the Reverend D'von's theme... a wrestler btw  ). The lovely woman I had counselling with made a great point, people who end up being counsellors have had therapy themselves.

on an unrelated note I thoroughly recommend Breakfree counselling!

Yes mate, doing the best we can, one day at a time!

As a fellow, agnostic at least, atheist, I have to agree.

Psychotherapists HAVE to have therapy and a lot of it, it's only of the problems in getting people trained up. Then they have to pay for ongoing supervision. I used to work in a non service user facing role for a mental health charity and virtually everybody has a mental illness or looked after a family member less fortunate than they are. Truly good people.

@AmblerThorn Take a moment mate, you can't see it now but it's going to be ok.

You will get through this, even if it's feels impossible to live with here and now.

My inbox is open if you want to message, even if you can't find the right words, send whatever you need to me, but the most important thing is that you remain safe and get the help you need now.

Been trying to ring but running out of time before I can't for a few hours.
He showed online at 03:58 on WhatsApp after messaging me late last night.
I cant ring until tonight if I can't get through in the next ten minutes.
