Who did you hear this from? It’s quite a big allegation to make. It’s clear Franklin had a problem with him as he was leading wicket taker in the 2nd XI last year, played well in the 50 over competition last year until he got dropped by Franklin. I also don’t think he would have strung Durham along, he has family who live up North, is a Sunderland fan from what I can see on his twitter so he obviously has a close connection to the North East. Definitely something more to it him not wanting to come back to Durham as having spoken to Mel Betts a few weeks back at a club game he said that Jack still had one year of University left so definitely wouldn’t make sense regarding your point then.

A whisper from someone at the club that said he was supposed to be available for the Blast after his exams. That he was expected to show up and didn't, went back home to Portsmouth instead. There was no plans to release him before that.

But this surely shows something must’ve gone on behind the scenes? The kid has another year of university left plus was available to be selected for the Blast. It’s a big risk someone asking to have a professional contract canceled especially when he’s got to come back to finish his degree and if he was going to play in the blast? Interesting that Eckersley was studying his degree this year too and ends up leaving his contract early…. Maybe Franklin has a problem with people who wish to study whilst playing professional cricket too?
 
Just to clarify Jack Campbell situation as it keeps being brought up and I think a lot of blame is with the player on this occasion, but maybe brought about because of the coach. As I understand it, from very good sources:

- During winter JC told Durham CCC he was training with Durham Uni, whilst telling Durham Uni that he was training with Durham CCC. He was basically doing no training and didn't realise the Uni coach was very good friends with Durham CCC 2nd team coach. They spoke and realised what he was doing.
- He was disciplined by both DCCC and DUCC coaches.
- During early season he had many disagreements/arguments with DCCC head coach.
- After yet another fall out with DCCC head coach, JC told Durham that he no longer wanted to be at the club and they mutually agreed to rip up his contract.
- JC went to other counties to try get trials, returning to Hampshire where he had played previously and is now doing well.

Another poster has put a bit more detail, he used Uni as a cover and when term finished it came to a head.

Has there been any issue with Ned? I thought he was just retiring from cricket and asked to be released? Makes sense for us to give Mackintosh some games in that case.

Whose your very good source? Be interesting to hear As Mel Betts told me when I spoke to him a couple weeks back Jack trained with him a couple times a week with him & then the rest with Neil Killeen so either your very good source is lying or Mel Betts is? But I don’t get Mel Betts would get from lying about it

Maybe doesn't want it out there that Campbell has a questionable attitude? I'm not sure to be honest but it all came out around March time - hence why JC didn't make an appearance for neither Durham nor Durham Uni in the pre season game.

I believe that was because Campbell was injured during the pre season game so believe that’s a very reasonable reason as to why he didn’t appear in that game. Mel didn’t seem to have a single bad word for Campbell when I spoke to him and said that they keep in regular contact even since he’s moved down south. So not sure he would do that If he had a questionable attitude?

You also seem to ignore my question in my previous post. Who is this good source of yours?

Guessing you are part of the Durham set-up especially as they were the only ones to call him JC. Your incorrect interpretation of this talented young bowler is both inaccurate and probably based on jealousy I would imagine. Were you in the meetings with North and Franklin? No, unless you are Franklin or North. Absolutely no training sessions were missed nor at Uni with Mel Betts (as mentioned in a previous reply). Where most clubs release players during the Uni term to allow them to concentrate on their degree, young Campbell did both - studied and passed a degree and trained with both Durham CC and Durham Uni, forging a good relationship with Mel Betts and improving a lot. The AWOL during the winter referred to in a previous post is laughable - get the attendance register from Betts or Franklin and show where these missed sessions were! You won’t be able to as none were missed. At no point was he disciplined by the Uni or Betts, who he fully knew had a long standing friendship with Durhams 2nd coach. Quite the opposite in fact - he forged a good friendship with Betts who helped him hugely. Be careful what you’ve been told by your ‘reliable source’ as it’s not the truth and maybe someone is covering their tracks. The lad went straight to Hampshire after asking to leave Durham - no other trials anywhere so again incorrect info you give. Read carefully through this site over the last few months and you will see many references to youngsters not getting much match play, and then rethink again as to why such a talented player felt the need to seek opportunities elsewhere.

Pretty much heard the same. It's good to see him doing well though. Thought he was very promising last year.
 
Noticed something on Jack Campbell's fb page - the Durham one not the second one he's created since going to Hampshire.

On his info he has given a mortgage lender a good review for arranging his mortgage. This was in 2020.

So presumably he had bought a house up here. If true that doesn't sound like someone who would have wanted to leave the club.
