There's a gap in the production line of a couple of years. There's no-one of 20-21-22 in the squad to make the step up, so we're throwing in the 18-19 year olds instead.
I'd love to know what went on with Jack Campbell mind, he was supposed to join up for the Blast after his exams finished, but he just didn't. And then he pops up a month later playing for Hants and nothing is said (apart from the short statement about his release). It's really strange.
Where is this gap you’re referring to?
Gibson 22
Bushnell basically 21
Doneathy 20
He’s a good lad Josh, I was speaking to him at South North recently and didn’t realise he was a member of the media team until he walked back to the tent. But you’re right, Franklin is spelt wrong. Shame.Got excited when I first glanced this but he's a member of the marketing department.

Wouldn’t be too surprised if your (our) dream were to come true before many months have passed. He’s a good lad Josh, I was speaking to him at South North recently and didn’t realise he was a member of the media team until he walked back to the tent. But you’re right, Franklin is spelt wrong. Shame.
Wonder where he's off to. Heard him doing the sports news on BBC tees this weekGot excited when I first glanced this but he's a member of the marketing department.

Campbell fell out with Franklin as far as I know. Not sure exactly what over but he asked to be released and they agreed. There's a gap in the production line of a couple of years. There's no-one of 20-21-22 in the squad to make the step up, so we're throwing in the 18-19 year olds instead.

Start of the season they were 21-20-19. Gibson and Bushnell hadn't played a single game for the first team. Not a single game, FC or List A. Doneathy turned 20 a couple of weeks ago and had a handful of games last year. Far from ideal if these are your fringe players, you'd want them a year or two further down their development.Where is this gap you’re referring to?

I heard that he just didn't show up and went AWOL. I have a feeling he never had any intention of coming back to Durham and was always going home after his exams, but just strung us along for his own benefit.Campbell fell out with Franklin as far as I know. More assumptions or feeds. A quote from a tv series ‘The truth is out there’ and no doubt one day it will get out.Start of the season they were 21-20-19. The two who have broken through in the last 18 months are Pottsy and Trev, and they both made their debuts in 2017. Jones maybe, and he debuted in 2018. There doesn't seem to be anyone between those and the kids we're blooding now.

I agree with this, promising kids are good but they wont get us out of div 2 or rapidly improve us in the one day stuff. They need good seasoned pros around them and to lose one like Dickson would be yet another blow. Our squad is way short and we need some good county pros to make us more competitive next season. Also the recruitment of overseas players has to be way better than the ones this season wh've contributed very littleAll three of them have barely played a full season combined. I think the point @Steak Pie was trying to make was we haven't got anyone in the prime of their career really, they're all either getting long in the tooth or haven't enough miles in their legs yet.
Absolutely spot on. Everyone always champions our glory years being powered by the academy but they had years of development alongside solid, experienced and largely overseas playersI agree with this, promising kids are good but they wont get us out of div 2 or rapidly improve us in the one day stuff. I don't trust this regime to do that.Absolutely spot on. Everyone always champions our glory years being powered by the academy but they had years of development alongside solid, experienced and largely overseas players
Financing are playing a huge part but competence too. It also makes me increasingly angry when I think our supposed head of cricket has fucked off to the hundredI don't trust this regime to do that.
Yeah totally get that but i am all for gateway for younger players but when I see failing Aussies in ahead of the likes of Bushnell and Doneathy it concerns me and gives me no faith in those running the show. Finances will always dictate hence we should be trying to keep the likes of Bushnell and Doneathy involved. Like in the T20 some young players must be baffled at what they're seeing whilst not getting fair opportunities. Recruitment needs to be so much better. Evison who went to Kent from Nottinghamshire would have been a perfect signing for us. I just worry for us given who we have in charge.Financing are playing a huge part but competence too. .
The persistent inclusion of our serial failure costly import at the expense of a promising academy product like Bushnell sums up the current state of our car crash club. They're taking the p!as out of the members.
It would take a brave man to do so as it would suggest they're admitting their original choice of the overseas was wrong. We all knew Maddinson was a wrong choice, even if he'd scored a boatload of runs. The crying need was for a bowler, and that didn't need hindsight as North tried as his excuse.I don't know how common it is to drop an overseas player mind.. can't speak for other clubs but we've had some shite here over the years and never remember them being dropped. Doesnt seem like the done thing and probably wouldn't for much for your reputation -im standing by to be corrected![]()
