Defoe

But a depreciating asset who will hopefully have a hand in us still playing Premier League football until then.

I'm not sure why anyone but the club's accountant would be bothered about what we pay players. Wickham is allegedly on £60k pw and has a grand total of 1 league goal this season.
Jozy is/was allegedly on £40k pw and will never score another goal in that league

I don't understand why anyone would not be bothered in the context of the club's general well-being. How many players have saturated the wage bill for years because good old Sunderland gave them lucrative contracts, then we were unable to shift them on those terms when things ultimately didn't work out? There's a few of them kicking around at the moment.

The club does not have an unlimited budget. Every flop that we can not shift has a knock-on effect for our next move in the transfer market.

Not sure if it's been on here yet but had it confirmed from my contact and someone else who I trust (posts on here). Pretty much a straight swap. Just need the MLS ranking system to agree. Which, I would imagine they would as they want Jozy back in their league.

Defoe won't be on 80k like. Goes against our whole model for years.

He isn't. Not what I have been told anyway.

Spent half of last season out injured and hes 32, paying him 70k a week is utterly stupid
Make sure you shove another pillow behind you tonight, I'd hate to think you might choke to death on your fat distended tongue as your Dad gives you a night night touch

I reckon we're just paying the wage Toronto FC would have owed him for the 3 years remaining on his contract. And that may be something like 70 grand a week.

So how much?

There's no way we'll be paying that sort of money, it would go against everything we've been doing under Short. I imagine he will be on £60k absolute maximum.

Not really arsed anyway like, just want him in red and white now. I don't particularly think he's going to blow teams away but lets face it he's a better option than what we've got at the minute. Concerning injury record last season too.

It might go against everything we've been doing but maybe the Altidore deal is the key to it. Maybe we could afford another 30k a week player and moving Jozy on enables us to go for Defoe. Who knows. Or maybe Short has just decided to spend some money after hoping we'd be alright with modest investment in the summer.
