He'll improve us, so great. I'll be pleased to see him on the pitch.

But it is the very definition of a panic buy, suggesting that any talk of having a transfer model / policy can now be dismissed as complete bullshit. We'll be left with a 35 year old extracting £4m out of the club in his final year, with no chance whatsoever of resale.

It's no better than a Keane-era signing, albeit at a higher end of the budget. Seems like further evidence that we are an utter shambles behind the scenes.

I
But it's a start. Might have a certain midfielder lined up, but depending on what striker we get, could change the midfielder? Maybe because we haven't had to spend a transfer fee, it frees up a fee for a better midfielder. Could be right, probably wrong knowing us, but If getting rid of altidore for a striker like Defoe, isn't seen as a long overdue step in the right direction, then some just will always find a negative to a situation.
Defoe joining is a step in the right direction and I would be thrilled if we had just signed that creative midfielder we need first, as thats our priority.

However if Gus says we are changing the system, that would excite me as Defoe will score goals, just not in our current setup.

You think we're chelsea? Our signings have been shit for a while. Let's see them prove us wrong. Our starting 11 currently is not god enough.
You dont need to be chelsea to sign more than one player in jan
We do have a premier league loan left but dont let facts get in your way mate

Sky sport piss me off ! if our arry was signing him it would be plastered all over it  they'd be live to the training ground waiting for arry to pull up and put his window down, triffic player etc etc, plus yellow breaking news banners.
instead cause we are signing him, there's a tiny little snippet in the bottom, and it's 'Toronto are sending him to Sunderland' as if it's a life sentence given to him ! boil my piss they do !!!!!
Sat and watched for 10 minutes expecting a mention. Nowt.

He also missed nearly half of the season in the MLS because of injury. Lets hope his age hasn't made him prone to injury.

Is the 80k a week thing just from the Mirror?...

When did we start believeing the Mirror like?

Im not saying his wage will be much lower than that, but since its basically breaking our current wage structure, you would've thought it would involve a signing on fee, appearance fees, goal bonuses etc etc, rather than just a straight "80k a week, no matter what" kind of deal?

There is absolutely no doubt we will be paying him a fortune, he wouldn't come otherwise

With our home games especially, he has to.
