Whilst I have reservations about how he'll fit into our system, I agree that our lack of chances is a combination of poor midfield and awful movement from strikers. A little better movement would go a long way to getting us a few more goals, even without a midfield improvement.

All about opinion but we arent creating chances for our strikers to miss, so having Defoe makes no difference. Need creative midfielder in Gomez/Rodwell's position or left winger to start creating.

Not really although he is an improvement on Altidore. Personally I am happy with Fletcher, other than Leeds in cup, he hasnt been given the chances to miss.

you think a 32 year old past his prime defoe is some messi who's going to score unassisted goals or something? He needs service and our midfield hasn't provided that well over a year.
 
Sky sport piss me off ! if our arry was signing him it would be plastered all over it :evil: they'd be live to the training ground waiting for arry to pull up and put his window down, triffic player etc etc, plus yellow breaking news banners.
instead cause we are signing him, there's a tiny little snippet in the bottom, and it's 'Toronto are sending him to Sunderland' as if it's a life sentence given to him ! :evil: boil my piss they do !!!!!

What? Adding a extra £20-£30k on the wage bill without a transfer fee? I mate HUGE gamble swapping a proven premier league striker for one that scored once in 42 appearances

That seems to be the reasoning behind it, get shot of the money sink that is Jozy and improve the team.

Hope that pays off, otherwise it will be like sticking an Aston Martin badge on a Humvee.

Ellis likes his short-term solutions. Unless he's planning to hoy in some pace in defence and centre midfield I'm not sure it will turn things round so easily.

But it's a start. Might have a certain midfielder lined up, but depending on what striker we get, could change the midfielder? Maybe because we haven't had to spend a transfer fee, it frees up a fee for a better midfielder. Could be right, probably wrong knowing us, but If getting rid of altidore for a striker like Defoe, isn't seen as a long overdue step in the right direction, then some just will always find a negative to a situation.

You think we're chelsea? Our signings have been shit for a while. Let's see them prove us wrong. Our starting 11 currently is not god enough.

As we're all dealing in assumptions and hypothesis why aren't people bothering to factor out that Altidore is no longer to be paid 50k pw for the next 3 years.
It sure makes all the righteous indignation about a players cost seem somewhat pathetic
