Defoe

In terms of the deal, Jozy is paid very well by Safc and Defoe's wages are not massive in comparison. One out and one in. Total outlay will not be as big as first perceived.
That's how I see it, maybe a 30k increase? You'll be hardpushed to get a international CF with bags of premier experience for that wage, which is basically what I boils down to, it's not a great deal in the sense he'll be worth nowt in a couple of years but if his goals keep us up this season and next and his experience helps our young forwards progress then job done.

Doubt anyone on here would have been bleating had we signed Drogba ( as Chelsea recently did ) or E'eto on a 3 yr deal.
Any single little angle they believe they can find fault they're on it like flies round the shite they spout

This has gone from page 6 to 41 since I last checked. This look like happening then? The realist in me says I can't see it, but am I wrong?

Exactly. Plus the simple fact we'd be replacing a striker who can score with a striker who can't gets my vote!
Just logged on for half an hour and saw this for the first time this morning. The first thing I thoight when I saw the money thing being thrown about was that we will be loosing Jozy's wages so it won't be such a huge leap as is being used to have a dig at the club by those who will always have a dig whatever they do.
And as you say a striker who can score vs a striker who can't, we are better placed straight away for me.

Well done to the club for taking a gamble if this comes off.

He will have paid for himself if he scores the goals to keep us up and get us further up the league. Proven premiership quality. Can't wait to see him.

Also, well done if Altidore is part of the deal too. Realising how shite he is and how little chance we stood of selling him outright.

All in all, very happy. Maybe a signal of intent to tweak the formation a bit too. Defoe could link up well with either fletcher or wickham you'd imagine.

All the papers in Toronto are saying it is a done deal as is the canadian press wire service..
Will be happy if it does. Proven premiership player, the kind we don't often see come here. Still won't believe it till he's got the scarf above his head. But replacing altidore for defoe, would be unbelievable.

Have to play 2 up front now. Defoe can't lead the line himself
Has to for me. That's when we will get the best from him. Home games we have especially, no reason why we can't.

Would (hopefully) mean that gus would have to play two up front - probably Defoe and Fletcher. Given some of the lower placed teams that are due at our place we might finally get after some teams and drop this scaredy cat approach to every damn match

Not saying I want him but think of it this way......No fee as it's a straight swap for Altidore.......wages will be around £60k/week.....offset by the £30k we pay Jozy.......not a disaster financially tbh.
Good points there mate . Personally I think it's a typical shite Sunderland signing, another over the hill, overpaid couldn't give a fucc footballer long past his best .

You would not use 80k on an up and coming player no chance a proven one yes. Will defoe work out here idk but it has to be worth a go if ellis and co are willing to stump up them wages and the rest

You would if he had a record in his native league etc and is around 22/23.
