Declan Rice is a good footballer.

He scores and creates a few goals from central midfield for Arsenal.

But what always impresses me most when i watch him is his work rate, and when the opposition are breaking against them, as often as not, the man getting back to foil them is Rice.

He is a class act.
 
You can always tell whether or not people have actually played the game or have any kind of footballing brain to think for themselves on threads like this. Asking what position Declan Rice plays and debates over whether he’s a number 6 or a number 8. They’re numbers on a shirt not positions. Declan rice is a centre midfielder and an absolute world class one at that. He isn’t a defensive one, he isn’t an attacking one, he’s a central one, for those that care his number is 42 for arsenal. Shove you championship manager bollocks up your arse and if you want kids speak like that go onto computer game forums (presumably they exist) and you’ll engage with people of the same clueless mentality as you.
 
Aye. Anderson actually been releasing Dec to get forward in recent England matches. He's been lacking on the ball when asked to hold for years. TT seems to have sussed that.

Could use a centre-back really like :) - Hopefully Branthwaite.
 
He’s come on massively at arsenal like. He used to be far too much…get it and square pass to someone else… in my humble opinion anyway… but he’s a bit of a rolls Royce these days. Tackles, drives forward, scores goals. Superb footballer

He's a box to box midfield, not the same.

Im not sure about it but excellent team mates. Good guy to have around.
On the pitch, he is alright to be honest, I rather have Ince or even scholes ahead of him if they playing now.

There's a world in which if you get the midfield and wingers working cohesively together, you don't need a superstar striker but somebody who can knit the play and feed the players where our talent lies (Palmer, Saka, Foden, Eze etc.)

Who that player is, I don't know, but would be easier than simply replacing Kane and his outrageously good output

Totally agree. All this modern day talk of false 9s, a ten and a half, doesn’t Bellingham where the sum of 4+6+8 because he’s ’all of those things’. 😳

I hate it. Old school me. A midfielder should be just that.

As for Rice, best quarter back since David Beckham at AC Milan.
