Death sentence for fraud

I'm against the death penalty on principle but I am pleased to see white collar crimes being given harsher sentences as opposed to wrist slaps and fines.

Vietnam is a communist country. They've allowed a certain amount of private enterprise, but ultimately money doesn't talk there. She's the most extreme case, but there are plenty of other tycoons who've fallen from grace.

I'm against the death penalty. But with regard to this crime not being as serious as, say, murder or rape, I'm not so sure. Tens of thousands of people were impacted, and in all likelihood it led to the deaths of some.

(In the West, however, it seems that the greater the sum involved, the less serious the consequences.)
