I know mate, it was probably the same with me when I look back, but I did feel guilty afterwards about the times I said I wasn't in or ignored the phone when he rang.

You shouldn’t beat yourself up over it mate that’s life, everyone does it. It doesn’t mean you didnt care.
 
When me and my mate had a flat, some of the lads used to think it was an open house and would turn up at any time of day or night and expect to be able to doss about for hours.
One night my housemate was at work and there was a knock at the door that I ignored. After a few knocks there was a voice through the letterbox from a lad who was a particular pest "I know you're in there.":lol:
"Aye, I know you're out there, that's why I'm not answering the f***ing door." He never did take the hint properly.
Had some great times in that flat but occasionally you want five minutes to yourself.
 
Used to do this all the time with my Mam- hiding from the Provi man in the early 80s
