He's played in their last 4 tests. Made his debut on boxing day, it was South Africa first test since March 23.
Outside the big 3 of India, England and Australia sides lose money hosting tests.

Because he's only getting picked for the one format. Which they barely play.
They mainly gave contracts to white ball specialists outside of the players that play all 3 formats. As there is a T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy in the year they've awarded the contracts for.
If they had ECB resources no doubt he'd have a contract. Some South African ex players did think it was harsh he wasn't awarded one.
He'll be in their test side for years to come. Imagine we will lose in him August as they travel to WI for 2 match series, also host SL(2 matches) and Pak (2 matches) from November into January 2025.

No surprise to anyone but it was mentioned on 1s commentary that he won’t be playing t20s.
Disappointing given his perceived willingness to play in that format - I wondered if we would maybe employ a rotation policy for the T20’s with our 3 overseas men - but perhaps the club want to make sure he’s fit and fresh for the proper cricket? Perhaps even the One Day Cup? I fancy us to do well in that this year.
I think he'll be involved for S.Africa during the 1day cup.
