"Asked by the Jewish Telegraph whether he himself had ever used the term, he replied: "When I was growing up we used to call the Chinese [restaurant] 'chingalings'.
"We weren't being disrespectful. We used to say: 'We're going to eat in 'chingalings'."

He was quoted as calling Chinese people "chinks" last month too.
And?

The power of the SMB. Informative, balanced and educational as ever.
Just to show that the older generation can adapt and embrace this age of political correctness in which we find ourselves, I'd like to let it be known:

If we beat the bin dippers, I'm taking the nagger out for a Bangladeshi.

Ok, a Cantonese take away it is then.

I assumed you were outraged at my outrage over my friend and his family using the word 'Chinese'. Maybe not.

Must admit marra, I find it strange that you would mock a mates parents. Might be just me, but I wouldn't turn a friends parent into an open joke.

Always surprises me how many racists are allowed to freely post on here....
Thats because we live in a free country. People are allowed to have their own views even if they are considered to be different to the accepted views of the majority of society. Name calling and use of old fashioned language that causes people offence, are unpleasant but should not be censored.
It is different to people positively taking actions to cause people harm, be it physically or financially. We have laws in place to protect minority groups from being persecuted due to their race or religion.

Dave Whelan has used terms that were considered to be acceptable in the 1960s, but are viewed in a very light these days.
He should be wise enough to to keep away from discussing different racial groups, as you can only really get yourself in trouble. Journalists are always looking for a story to sell.
He deserves receive some kind of punishment for his stupidity, and be told to keep his mouth shut on racial and religious issues.

However Wigan have bought players of many different racial backgrounds and from many different countries during his time in charge. Which suggests he is not the Alf Garnet type of character the london media are trying to make out he is.

Its strange the Jewish telegraph have remembered this conversation, while he is being investigated for using anti-semitic language. Im probably just being a cynical gentile.

I didn't mock anybody's parents mate, I was just surprised that they'd use that sort of language. I said I was shocked and then told some other lads about it who don't know the family in question - they thought it was canny bad.

Bloody load of nonsense not racist at all ,just from a different era, Ausies call us Poms ,we call Scots Jocks ,Irish Paddy's worlds gone mad.
Political correctness

So what?

I did then and I still do now.

Everyone in our part of town still goes to the "Pa*i's" corner shop. That's not racist. It's just differentiating the shop from Morrisons or Asda
