Danny Dyer talks sense

It should be the area you're from or your dad's team.

Was simple with my lad.

He could be Sunderland and come with me and his grandad a few times a season plus the odd away game (we live in the SE. Hes never live in the NE)

He could support Southampton like his mams family (to be fair we go watch them a bit too when we visit. Most of my in-laws are season ticket holders)

Or ill happily take him to a local club we can watch together regularly.

Needless to say hes Sunderland daft, though we do enjoy local football too

I was told off before because I said my mates from Ireland didn’t have a proper connection to Liverpool when they were gutted about losing a match we watched in the pub years ago. Stand by what I said.

I had a couple of pals from Cambridgeshire and they were both Arsenal, they other mates from Cambs were Tottenham. Used to make me cringe hearing them talk about football. At least one of the Arsenal lads said he was jealous of being from a place with a big club where my first match was with me da and his first match was with his etc.

He’d been on the waiting list for an Arsenal season ticket since they were in Highbury. Finally got one at Emirates and he puts it on viagogo most weeks because he doesn’t enjoy going because he’s by himself and surrounded by tourists. Where to start with that man.

Absolutely mate. I'm from West Yorkshire and have nor ever will live in the north east, yet I'm a lifelong Sunderland fan.

My dad is from Wirral and has never nor ever will live in the north east, yet is a lifelong Sunderland fan.

His grandson is from Sheffield and will likely never live in the north east, yet I know my dad is hopeful he'll be a Sunderland fan.

He's not from the area and his dad isn't a Sunderland fan.

My brother-in-law is from Wiltshire and is a casual Leeds fan (due to attending university there).

Swindon is poorly supported from the Town itself.
We are a unique as the majority of the support comes from outside the Town itself. Definitely a missed opportunity or you could say has potential.
Nothing more, nothing less

My Dad was not interested in football. The nearest club when growing up was the Piss Stains. My Uncle took me to couple of Pox games before I went to Swindon.
My Grand Dad took me to my first ever professional game at Reading.

Strange one that it was never a football hot sport and rural.
Most kids supported one of the fashionable clubs, Liverpool, Man Utd etc.

Looking back maybe I was cursed supporting this shite.🤣
One thing though is choose it carefully as you are stuck with it for life. I failed.🤣

You must be young. I first saw him Human Traffic and in Mansun's 'Being A Girl' video.

You know you have a proper local rivalry when you have terms of endearment for your neighbours like this.

Despite all of this there still remains boundaries.
I will never entertain any songs mocking dead players etc. Not acceptable at any level or rivalry.
I know you will agree with me mate.

True but this is part of the problem loads of northerners moved to London so you have cockneys supporting northern teams and now you have their kids supporting them.
If it’s through family I can understand it because the passion is there. If it’s someone moving to a new area and embracing the local team I get that too.
If it’s randomly picking the team because they like the strip, or a certain player, that I don’t get.

Can happen mate.
