But they would want to get value for him rather than him go for nowt if his demands weren't beyond what the club thought was reasonable.

Think back to jobe, he signed a contract extension that worked for both parties even though we all knew he was off before long.

People don't want to hear it but Neil has overplayed his hand and the club have not flinched and been willing to show they won't be held to ransom.

And its not like the club have shown themselves to be stingy in wider dealings recently.

None of this would mean he would play, he hasn't overplayed any hand in the slightest

Whats the point of him sitting on a 3 year deal and never playinh

RLB doesnt think he is good enough, its absolutely nothing to do with this

The way I see it (as an outsider), since your latest manager/head coach came in the change in your clubs standing has been incredible.
Yes, he's been given the tools (players) to work with but it's obvious the bloke knows what he's doing.

People don't know or see what's going on at a football club on a daily basis, the people in charge of selection are there for a reason.
Your manager is there to pick the best 11 (and subs) he has available in his quest for a result, and on the whole it seems to be that he knows what he's doing.

He's obviously got his reasons - I'd say just trust his judgement.

Yeah, with the likes of Hume and Ballard it seems to take about 5 minutes to agree and sign a new deal.

I think he’s been incredible but also the DoF is the one that took a lot of stick but appeared to be sticking to a plan.

Ghisolfi is abit of a game changer too - he seems very involved on a match day.

If the club could have got him to sign a 12 month extension and extract a higher fee when selling, I think they would have done. As he hasn't signed, Neil understands where he's at with the level of his game and his future with us. As a result he'll be able to command higher wages because of the no-fee in his next job (which is liely to be in the championship or a team near the bottom of the prem who need to get ready for the drop down)
Can't see a mid to above PL club making a move for him.

Think he should have been used more in recent weeks given the amount of minutes and running Xhaka has put in this season but it's obvious that Le Bris doesn't rate him at all as a Premier League player.

I think because we don't see exactly what goes on it leads to people filling the void with their own imagination, whether that's 'player x clearly has an attitude problem' or 'the club have fallen out with player y' and often there is very little/no evidence to support any of it.

As you say, trust the management's judgement.

Agree with this. Other clubs will have a valuation of him, how much they are willing to spend to secure him as a player. If he signs a new contract the club owns his 'human capital' for that period. If is his contract has gone, he owns it and that gives him greater bargaining power for wages. If he knows he has no real future at Sunderland then why would he just hand back some of his value to the club? Its always tricky because the club have invested in him, yet ultimately the human capital belongs to the player when out of contract. This occurs outside football as well of course and its an issue that a firm/club invests in a worker/player and improves them but then that person who now owns the improvement in their human capital turns round and wants either higher pay equivalent to the mkt price of their new skills or they bugger off to another firm/club that will pay them that rate (and avoided having to pay for the investment). Its the theory behind why Chelsea went the route of offering 8 year contracts - they effectively own the players human capital for the duration or a large part of that player's career.

Catch 22 as i don't think he'll really play any meaningful minutes unless he signs a new deal, but why would he sign a new deal if he's not playing at all.


Reminds me of Reidy the way he's been frozen out. Saying that, there haven't been many opportunities to play him
 
Perhaps like his fellow players he has to get up to snuff when training alongside his new colleagues, show he's ready for the task before being selected. Until he does so the offer on the table will reflect his current standing. Thus far the staff are of the belief that currently he isn't PL ready resulting in the stalemate. Same applies to Cirkin. Just a guess of course.
