Dan Neil

Ages ago that, and I can't really remember how it went other than we lost. Ya might be right, I dunno.

I'm talking more recently. Would you have brought him on against City or Spurs?

All I'm saying is the way certain games have gone, there hasn't been many ideal occasions to bring him on.

Mind I thought there was an argument to bring him on against Leeds - and I said as much at the time.
Not in games like that but he could have been used and trusted a lot more than he has. It's baffling tbh

Yeah, people are really stretching for reasons like, he is a good player who would not have let them team down for the odd 30 mins or even a game, look at how they others have adapted?
He's reaped a bit of what he sowed. I wouldn't describe him as poor or as deserving better.

How? the club dont want to keep him

He’ll get an opportunity on Saturday to show he is worthy of a starting place/more of a sub role.

Always difficult in a disjointed patched up team but let’s be honest he was average (Neill) v huddersfield in the league cup

I like Neill l, always have but clearly those watching training every day don’t think he is up to it

He isn't committing to the club so wont be getting much after the cup game, in fact most believe he will be away, thinks its time he either got off the pot or had a shit

Just feel like he hasnt helped Xhaka and our other midfielders by flogging them for every minute

I know we've had to fight for every point and we need as much quality starting as we can. And also we recovered last season (just ) for the play offs. But there's similarities there again with flogging certain players to their absolute limits and then a gradual drop off of form - I hope it doesn't happen with the return of the AFCON lads but it feels like it may.

If we can carry Chris Rigg as a sub so often or even a starter. I don't understand why we can't use a Dan Neil.

Leeds for example- both outnumbered and overawed us in midfield. Le Bris tucked Rigg in for a while before making changes and he had a poor game.

Spurs starting with Mayenda in an away game- first half we couldn't get to grips at all with Le Fee and Xhaka.

Given Regis likes to start cautiously quite often and then make subs to change things I have no idea why some think Neil couldn't have been an extra body in central midfield over this period and help out.

Club have actively replaced him. If anything not signing a deal has probably been vindicated.

He's been treated worse than Cirkin, yet doesn't appear to have done anything different.

They did last season. I suspect he or his agent got caught in their own hype. Could have gone for them, but it didn't.

Who would you bring him in for though?

I think when we have made a swap in that part of the pitch, Gert's been getting the nod. And given his quality and profile, I don't think that's too baffling at all.

Again, the player taking up Neil's position is Xhaka, and we're not about to sub Xhaka in tight, important games unless we absolutely have to.

I agree with all of this yeah...just like literally to help out at times. It is a bit odd. No doubt about it. Hes a decent footballer, who could have helped the team at times.

Insulting answer redacted by a mod.

Yea but Cirkin is useful in a position that is required, were hardly going to cut our nose off. As an aside, I imagine their contract negotiations went a bit differently.

Perhaps not for effort, but how do you know that based on the few minutes he's had? He might not be up to it. I think the club clearly have their doubts.

The Le Fee and Xhaka midfield was good against City with Alderete pushing into midfield, but it was a gamble leaving Mukiele one on one with Haaland. Against Spurs away starting with Mayenda leaving the same central midfield was a big call he got wrong. Neil as an extra body in there to slow things down and stifle would have been better than starting Mayenda as we were allover.

Leeds was an obvious one as well - they play 352 and look for bits around DCL. We got completely overawed numbers wise in there.

Just utter nonsense this like

Why do people post shit like this about someone who just captained your club to promotion

"caught in their own hype"

What?

As much as I'd love to articulate my opinion to receive "utter nonsense" & "can't believe you're saying that", I'll pass.

On for? I can't recall every game..it was very evident that we needed another body in midfield v Fulham. Imo he should have been brought on
